You will need to lower your new chandelier.

Hang a chandelier approximately 30 to 34 inches over a table with an 8 foot ceiling height. If your ceiling is higher than 8 feet, mount the chandelier an additional 3 inches higher for each foot of ceiling.

Carmen had the electrician back in October when it came to light it was too high and it was lowered to where she likes it... I believe it was 4 to 5" lower than the 36" it was orig at.

Carmen, try them on the other wall if you can. Naturally old movies to come in very handy. If you don't like it you can store the movies and remove the towers. I would put the piece back under the window and keep the desk over the Z wall centered under the vignette and if you don't want to invest in other storage you can put the two matching boxes under the vignette on the right wall with the 3 drawer piece between or on one side or the other. You can get some reasonable kid bean bag chairs for left and right of the desk as they are comfy for kids to hang in. Amazon or other should sell them. Once you move the towers or eliminate then we can re visit. I would put the piece back that was under the window. It works best there vs. the toy boxes.

So are you saying out the grey bookshelves back under the window and put the desk back under the Z?
So we have small toy chest, big toy chest, desk organizer, small desk, and two gray bookshelves, plus 2 black towers.... i’m getting so confused on which pieces you’re talking about now.

Hi Carmen, I call them, "bookcases" which is actually a DVD holders. I think you should relocate them to the wall on the right. I like the desk centered under the vignette with the Z. The piece you moved from under the window which is storage bench of sorts should stay under the window with nothing in terms of furniture left and right of the piece with the small wall area left and right where you have the DVD storage shelving which I called, "bookcase".

I'd move the piece that says, "back to orig.", to where it was which was under the window. I'd move the towers to the wall where the piece is that you moved that was orig. under the window to see what it looks like.

I don't see you having the DVD towers in the small wall space adjacent to the windows as they look like an afterthought and are also obstructing the windows and or curtains and the wall is too small for them.

I don't know if you can see the white arrows :( I could when I had drawn them and now when I click..... Understand (completely) you want to keep the DVD's so that is what I would do. Otherwise, I'd keep the DVD's in a DVD box stored alphabetically or how you find it best to find them and not have the towers and re address the wall on the right in the photo above.

Well it was a lot of work but we moved the towers to the garage so where should I be putting things now that they’re out of the way

Ahhhhh. looks much less cluttered for lack of a better word. I do like the desk centered under the vignette and the storage piece back under the window. Wondering what you think of an area rug such as below in faux fluffy fur for middle of the space to brighten it up and bring in the curtain panels. Maybe 5' wide and 8' long, not wall to wall. Nice for the kids to sit and play on as well:

Maybe some kids bean bags such as:

One left and right on each side of the piece under the window, yet pulled out a ways and not pushed in to the corner...

warm up the space and cozy it a bit.... Wondering if you might think of a bit taller and larger piece for under the vignette on the right wall vs. the two storage boxes. Perhaps you can put the one at the foot of Zoe's bed for things in her room?

or something similar to the bottom right with your vignette above.......then you don't have three storage pieces in the room? I'm sure Home Depot, Ikea, Lowe's has things as such and you can create what you like and it's a one stop storage solution and looks very tidy and clean.

I hear what you’re saying about the cozy chair and the rug I just need to make sure that my dogs do not go on it because I do not want something smelling like the big black dog that I have... The boxer is perfect she smells like a rose.

Another option so everything isn't against the walls is a small round kids table in the center on a fluffy area rug for coloring, etc. Large enough for two small chairs under the chandelier vs. a desk? Then a good sized single modular toy storage area on one wall and the vignette on the other will the Z and adding some other things along with the photos.

I like the Z.... I also like a small round table in the center with two chairs. Will give the room some personality as well and keep the dogs more off the area rug.... Home Goods has so many GREAT items for kids spaces. Wish things were so creative when mine were young. I oooh and awww over the kids things in that store. they might have a cute small round table!

I'd place a fluffy chair where the black round thing is in the photo..out a ways, but still in that corner and probably one opposite.

Carmen, I really love the round table in the center with two chairs. It really adds something to the room vs. having everything against the walls and the center empty.

I'm happy to mock up some lights for you if you tell me what tone you want. I think black iron is what you were thinking??? I think a big drum shade would look nice, fresh and also a little chic if you change things up down the road.

Try it the other direction..... you could wide down well and spray it white or another color with a spray paint/primer in one. I think it really makes a difference having something in the center. An area rug under would be nice either fluffy shag or a faux fur.

Perhaps your husband could attach to the underside of the table on either side a dowel that holds rolls of paper than can be pulled over the top for drawing and so on

I'd try it the other direction if possible. Naturally, a lot would be removed from the walls so there may be plenty of space.... I think what's bothering me visually is the two pieces being the one under the window and the kids table are both the same direction.... can't explain it.....

What do you think of a drum? Pairs well with any light you have in the home. Again, pretty so when you change the room up it pairs well with furniture as well.

White table will lighten the space and if you get a fluffy synthetic rectangle rug for the center and the table upon it.... it would be great start.

I like the drum, but you have to love it.... works well with your other lights, it's a drum.

I can mock up some candlestick lights for you in a couple hours. I'd keep it simple.

a drum is such as the mock up. It's a double drum in the mock up, you could do a single. If you like to stay more matchy even though not near the same area I can do some mock ups for you of lights. I do feel the drum adds something in a brightening way to the room. It's timeless and it honestly pairs well with fixtures such as your dining space. I would tell you with no hesitation you could even put it near to the dining light in another room even if both could be seen at the same time. Yet, you need to be happy as it's your home naturally!

Another coat most likely Carmen... they will take a little bit of a beating... did you use gloss or flat? Gloss will be easier to clean up crayon or other. You could do it right over the top of the flat no worries if it's not gloss or Satin. Just thinking of wiping it down and flat will not work well with that and little ones.

You remind me of myself...... You get it done when you see it and seem to manage to get the get up and go to do it all yourself!

Looks a lot better.... I feel you don't need the desk now... it's a bit of overkill as she now has the table to work at for homework or coloring or....... Is there a spot in her bedroom for the desk you could put a mirror above it and it will last her a while for when she starts to want to do her hair or other things younger girls like to do. More of a place for her girly things in her room on the desk.

What is in the multiple drawer piece on wheels.... reminds me of the old days working in the hospital as a nurse.... I'm not being critical...please don't think that. I think it is not doing the room justice. I'd do one vignette even if large on the wall where the desk is or the opposite and get a larger storage system for toys and so on on the wall most likely with the desk. Modular things you can put together in to different configurations like the big box stores sell or again, Ikea.

You have to do what you feel is best and you may not want to invest in to something else even if it's inexpensive as you have these things. Appears it's near the entry so making it look nice and cohesive with doing it IMO is a good idea. Yet, you are talking to somebody who has no nick nacks per se and is very strategic about keeping things looking just a certain way :(... My kids are grown though so I know that isn't always possible. If this is a longer term home.......

If she has friends over and such the long wall where the desk is would be a larger wall for the whole vignette... you could get 3 children sized bean bags and put them against the wall so they can sit in a place other than the table in the center. Amazon has them I think Target and........ just a though and not bulky.

essentially the vignette all on the wall taking the photos from the other wall on to the longer wall with the three bean bags lined up for when kids come to visit so they can sit together comfy vs. at the table. Random selection of bean bags, but just giving you a semi visual.

But at the risk of sounding lecturey, you have permission to take a breath now and then! I really wanted to be an advocate for Zoe and her charming attachment to “Z”. Feel free to move Z, but guide her into thinking it occupies the most special place in the house. I say this as someone who finally was granted permission to move the lava lamp — complete with polar bear holding a bottle of Coca Cola — to the finished basement. Did I mention owner of said lamp is 28-years-old and now lives in Manhattan? Parenting...never ends...and never fails to reward. Okay, carry on.

@lisa thank you. I am right on it because the truth is, I wish I had an enclosed office/ guest room...so I am dying for change that I can control...
My kids are only 5 and 3 and I have thought about taking this “play room” away from them...but I wouldn’t know what else to do with it...it’s the first room you see, so it can’t be an office (I clutter up really fast)
But I was wondering on making it more mature, but the kids would use this space, and I don’t know what I would do with it...so they can have it for now lol

OK I know most if you don’t have little ones anymore but can I ask you guys a question, when you did did you let them eat at the same table as you.... I would never mind my daughter but my son is quite slobbery and gross... wipes his grubby hands all over the table so I actually have another picnic table that they eat at... now that I have painted the outside picnic table white I am wondering should I also paint the other one or leave it Brown?

My kids did eat at the table: 3 boys very close in age I worked as a nurse for years and my husband is a airline pilot so I was often alone. I think I wasn't like I am today though so, no harm to foul. I have family gatherings now that my MIL has passed as she loved it so I didn't have them. I find I'm ridiculous with my linen furniture and so on and everybody running crazy with dirty hands, running with food, chasing each other and so on. Yet, I have a glass of wine (or two....) and let it go. Probably a bit less controlled with about 6 little ones running all over the place that are not mine, but are relatives so..... I say what ever works for you..... go for it. I didn't have a lot of, "nice things" that I put a lot of time and energy in to back then so it was not the same to some degree. The older I get the more persnickety I get. Sad, but true :(

NOOO, I don't get their inspiration. Drums are not modern really..... they have been around a long time. Yet, I respect you see them as something you don't lean toward.

I just see it as clean and simplistic going/matching with most decor.

Hello everyone I’m going to Lowe’s today to look at window coverings because I need new ones in my kids bedrooms but I was wondering if I should change these ( in my kitchen nook/ dining)out too....
I’m asking because I don’t really have this color would around but I do like that I could see through them and see the outside and still block strong rays of the sun but everywhere else in my house is levelor.

Your dining table looks very pretty.... I'm heading out for a long day working. I wanted to say you can do window trim, just be aware it won't be very wide as the window with the floor lamp is very close to the wall. If your husband can miter it's fairly easy to find the DIY on You Tube or other.

You can do curtain panels with shades. Your rod would be 4 to 6" above the window and so you'd need to figure that for the length of the window treatment so they are to the length where the just kiss the floor. It would look something like:

I'd stay with something simple with a texture to it.. maybe a linen look. As I recall the window panels at Lowe's don't come in many lengths????? Yet, there is Home Goods as well they sell 96" as does JC Penney I believe.
