I am sure a lot of people are. It is going to make Ed Currie even richer than he is now.

While I will probably get some seed somewhere and grow it out eventually, I am not real anxious to grow it. Basically anything past a Habanero is hot enough or too hot for me to make any real use out of. I just grow some of the super hots for the fun of it and growing the "Hottest Pepper in the World" is fun IMO.

Pepper X huh, where'd that come from? I though the next in line from Ed Currie was going to be Death Strain. Was that Dragon's Breath pepper ever officially placed above the Reaper?

If you watch the video to the end, they state that the Pepper X designation is temporary and it will get a formal name soon.

That's insane! My guess is that with peppers they can't get over 16 million SHU since that's pure cap. Not sure what the science is behind raising the SHU of a pepper but it seems that Ed has developed a forumla to raise it by a million or so higher each release. I'm sure he has hotter in the works. I think his next release will be 4.2 million SHU. It's a funky looking pepper and I wonder if those are ripe or not.

I know Pepper X is only a placeholder, but it is quite different compared to Death Strain. The latter is old news, but I don't think it ever got an official release or rating, just wondering what happened to that. I guess it might have been pushed aside when Pepper X showed more promise.

Anyway, it's all quite insane truly!

Death Strain might have been another "prototype" that either wasn't as hot as they expected or it might not have been stable enough. I didn't really hear about the Death Strain but I did hear that Ed Currie had a few new varieties in the pipeline in order to ensure that he would be able to one up any new challengers, should they pop up.

Yeah, I would probably grow it just to grow the hottest pepper. I had use of the Ghost Chili I actually enjoyed in as a sauce. Carolina Reaper I made a sauce but did not enjoy that and sooooo little goes a long way. There would be no way unless the flavor is awesome that I would attempt a sauce with pepper X. I usually use 12 peppers to a bottle so that would be one VERY HOT HOT Sauce!

i have '2' 2year old reapers which i overwinter in my greenhouse room... at the moment they are outside producing 1/2 dozen ripe peppers every day per plant which i give away- i luv hot, but the reapers have 'socially redeeming qualities '... but our local mex rest. owner luvs em... god bless him...
