ETA here is a fuller photo of the kitchen.

I agree with jck. I definitely see that some people put tile when they have that little 4" granite-matched vertical piece....but I don't like it... I think that vertical piece is meant to be a "backsplash" and it doesn't need tile above it.

But if you do decide to remove it and put tile up there, a look I prefer, do what jck said. Keep the backsplash tile simple in color.

remove the 4" piece, otherwise tiling on top of it looks out of place and too busy.

you could do a glazed brick in this salt color

a 2x8 glass tile in a tan/taupe shade

all of these are from tilebar.com

That looks to me like it's a laminate countertop with integrated backsplash, not granite.

The builders installed this ifact I believe we paid extra for it . I am uncertain we can remove it without a saw which would basically mean new countertops completely. I do like the light subway tile however..

Hello. I would offer a figured light-gray tile

If that is laminate counters and you can't remove that 4" piece, I wouldn't do any other back splash.

Beth- can you tell me what brand and the name of the tile that has the teal giraffe in the pic? it looks almost like mother of pearl in the sheen and "swirls"? Thank you!

I did. I listed the name/brand. Sand Dune. they are all from tilebar.com.

ok, here is the link.

it's actually a ceramic but they do have the MOP shine

they have it in Fog too

And if you want the actual MOP tile, they have this one

A white, grey, or sandy color tile would most likely look the best. There are many options out there. Your countertops do have the 4" backsplash, so look into getting that removed if possible.

Agree with Melissa R.
