Without knowing more about your furniture, the floor and the space it goes in... it's an even more difficult choice to make. But I voted for the dark green one.

Oh sorry, actually it's a newly built house, so far, I have greyish wall to wall carpet & same colour blinds like shown in the pic. I am still looking for a coffee table so all depending on which colour I go for the floor rug. And I also have a light green & silver shaded in rectangle picture frame which will be hung soon in the middle of those windows.

If the new rug is to go on top of the old, I agree. If your new rug is to replace the existing carpet, I like the third choice .

If you keep the carpet, then no rug is necessary.I know that people put rugs on top of wall to wall carpeting. I don't understand that, but that is just me. In your case, the rugs that you picked seem to have the same texture as your carpet and I don't think it would go well at all.

@carolins: thanks for the support:) I thought it's just me. When I saw it for the first time, I thought it was crazy..now, I think I got used to it, but I still don't understand it:)

@printesa: same here. Although I do sort of understand it when a) there's a hole in the carpet or b) the room is very, very large and could do with an 'island' to define a particular area. Perhaps :-D

Ok thanks all, why I wanted to put a carpet was to break that white & grey contrast with some other colour as I have more of black & white all over the house. I will put some more pics of my living & meals area.

If you put an accent rug over wall-to-wall, it should be just that--an accent, and I don't see that any of the rugs you chose would be that. When you choose an accent color, say, for instance, yellow, or red, the area rug would be predominantly red, with white and grey, or yellow with white and grey. To put another solid color, especially a neutral, into a room of solid colors, especially solid neutrals, doesn't make sense.

I can't understand putting rugs over carpet either and the backing on the rug rubs the pile of the carpet. I also like the idea of a patterned ottoman. The room as is needs some cheering.

If you really want a rug for contrast, I think the zebra rug in the above photo is the way to go! The shape as well as stripes will give you great contrast, and I love the mirrored trunk on top! Very contemporary and it seems that is your style. Then you can add the pops of color in your art!

Oldroo I really like the patterned ottoman, that adds more of style. Dsimer I agree with you on the trunk. I am gonna look for ottoman or something like that trunk too.

waluscha - you may find you can choose any fabric you like and have it made up, which will give you a lot of colour choices. Consider having a couple of extra cushions made too - just one on each lounge is enough to carry the pattern through. You can then take other colours from the pattern to expand your cushions for more life to your lounge.
