Pineapple slips

Hello. My pineapple plant finally gave me a fruit after 3 years! (Central Illinois)Best pineapple I've ever had. Now the 3 slips on the top have taken over and I have read where people have left them to grow just like that had them fruit again the next year from the slips on top and I've read to take the slips off, what do you guys do? I think it looks interesting as it is but will be difficult to keep it upright as it grows I think. I have also read that cutting the leaves back after fruiting will make it put out more pups as I have none, just slips. Is this true?

Any info would be great. I put this in propagating because my pineapple has fruited and I want to do what I need to have a crop again and I read that the pineapple dies after fruiting like a banana.
