My hallway needs help!!

Hi my name is Taryn, and, I live in a small apartment in Queens, NY, i have attached a picture of my hallway and would like suggestions on what throw rug might be appropriate (better than the one that is shown) and what I should do with the wall without any furniture!!

You could hang a series of hooks (variety in metals, old doorknobs in crystal, brass too) and knobs and hang hats on the wall. If you get a wind tunnel effect that would take them off the wall there, then no, but from summer boaters to winter mufflers, (particularly in storage starved urban places where you walk a lot) it can be very useful AND your eclecteic layered style seems like it might involve some pretty fabulous hats. If there is something practical and beautiful that you can imagine there, go for it. An evenly spaced grid of 3 on 3 would work as well as the gallery idea. What panache your space has!

The little chest with the starburst and all the other items above it should be removed. That is too cluttered and is a distraction from the nice direction you are taking with the vignette to the right. The area rug should be large enough for the chair in the foreground to have at least its front legs on, yet not quite under the desk on the other side. Maybe a 9x7 would work. As for the entry/go-around, I would not worry about it. That is just a passage into the area where you want people to take notice. Leave it simple, with perhaps one picture on the hallway side of the closet column - spots turned to highlight it. I'm thinking your lamps are too much for the desk though. Do you have some that are less bulky? Like the red chest/box. Hope you carry that touch of red throughout your space.

I would suggest putting the starburst mirror along the entry hallway wall, maybe add a runner if you find one you love :)

I also thought of putting the starburst mirror in the hallway. That would lighten up the "heavy" area where it is now, but it appears to stick out quite a bit. With your narrow hallway, you may want art that lies flatter on the wall. How about a large (maybe 3' X 4') framed (with small molding) beautiful piece of wallpaper that matches the colors in the area?

I've read your suggestions and I love them all, I like the idea of a Gallery/Art wall, also a wall of a variety of metals, and old door knobs in crystal to use as hooks to hang beautiful hats, etc. A runner or 9X7 area rug sounds just right :) as well. The items above the starburst Mirror are actually cocktail, and wine glasses! With the limited space, I wanted to utilize that area as a small bar! I realize it is cluttered, I just wanted to fill up the space! I will lighten it up, definitely!! I do have an eye out for lamps that are less bulky. Also, I will try switching out the starburst mirror to the entry wall and opt for a piece artwork on the wall above the chest!! Thanks Houzz Community your thoughts and ideas are inspiring!!!
