Hi Janet, thanks yes I will not pick final backsplash until I know what goes with countertop. Unfortunately the countertop place doesn't have samples so I have to take my cabinets, backsplash, flooring and lighting samples to the countertop place to match everything. What I am doing is getting all of those udeas together first so I can take to countertop place and pick. I wish they had a sample, it would be much easier to match everything...

New River white or Thunder white is one of the granite choices that I looked at when I was last at the countertop place. It is a white, silverish granite with silver and red streaks and veins. I have no idea if it will go with my backsplash choices yet. Hoping to get some help on here with all of that...?

Good thinking on River White Granite! This is a white granite countertop with linear veins that can range in tone from blue to burgundy. This is a pretty neutral option that will most certainly go with the most of backsplash options you can choose. Another granite I would consider is Moon White Granite that doesn't have this burgundy shade. Instead, it features speckles and swirls of bright ivory threaded with silvery gray, jet black, and, occasionally, with very deep navy blue. This durable granite countertop is dotted with mineral deposits that create amazing gray swirls throughout the whole stone surface. This is another option to consider if you set your mind on white granite. Both are white, but have different shades, speckles, and swirls and will complement differently different backsplash choices.

You should definitely first decide on the countertop material and color and then choose a backsplash. If you opt for white cabinets and light countertops, you should definitely go with a busy backsplash to add more interest and detail to space. Maybe my favorite option is dark gray stained shaker cabinets with busy backsplash and a white countertop. Consider porcelain stone tiles, they look amazing and have great quality.

My personal opinion is that busy backsplashes are dated already. You can't go wrong with simple and classic. The others are right about the countertop - choose it first then find your backsplash.

Everyone is correct about picking your counter top first then choosing a back splash to match it.

I want to say again that the gray cabinet doesn't go with your grayish floors -- they have different undertones and thus clash. Therefore, I think you should consider only the combinations with the dark cabinets.

I voted for the last choice but I would for go the stone anywhere in this mix .But I agree the counter drives the backsplash not just the cabinets,

Hi Patricia, when you say forgo the stone, which stone are you referring to? Also the countertops we think we want are the New River White granite. I don't have a sample but here is photo of slab. Do you think these backsplashes will go with it?

Hi Acm, thanks for pointing that out. I am not too concerned with the flooring yet, will decide on that last after I have picked cabinets, granite and backsplash. But will definitely look to ensure everything matches. : )

Thanks everyone for your comments! They are helpful in my sorting all of this out. This site has so much info and is an awesome resource! I have been giving a lot of thought to the countertops and am excited to go back to the countertop place next week. I also have a bunch of tiles in mind once we have countertop picked but not a lot of tile choices locally. I did see this darker tile. I wish it were solid color but its the darkest tile locally that I found & like. Was thinking about possibly doing a dark tile if I went with the lighter painted dove gray cabinets since the cabinets backsplash and countertops are very light...looking to add a little warmth to the mix...thought about also doing a wooden pantry door to add warmth? Suggestions are appreciated! if we do the darker stained wood I Think the lighter tiles would go best.

After having a dark stained vanity in my previous house, I'd be hesitant to use a dark vanity........especially if you use baby poweder, Gold Balm or powdered makeup.....they all end up on the knooks and cranies in the door panels and looks dusty. It is impossible to keep dust and lint free

Since the the cabinets design is squared i would go with the same squared backspalsh, and with black or white for the cabinets look good with it has both color, so this depends on your taste.
