I know many in the USA think sill length panels are dated but I am finding my self very, pardon the pun, drawn to them. They are still very stylish in uk bedrooms and I find the look quite quaint. I like them ending at sill not just bellow, like this

One unsolicited question. Can the bed be pulled closer to the rad so it could function as an night table? That would also allow access into the bed from both sides and for easier making.

I don't care for sill length panels. The room could use the softness of fabric. Definitely go to the floor with the panels. On the window with the radiator, tie the panels back low and pull the bottom portion of the drapes beyond the radiator. Of course, you could tie both windows back for a consistent look. If you put the panels on a wrought iron rod, you could get wrought iron holdbacks to pull the drapes back. An additional advantage of having the drapes to the floor is the more fabric, the better sound absorption. It would look extra cozy for guests too!

I do have rad covers with panels but they never stay neat that is why I am looking into tailored sill length. Off the rack 63 always look unfinished for they usually fall under the sill not at the sill which is more of a formal look.

So I didn't think I liked shorter length curtains either, but I'm reconsidering that. Thanks for the helpful photo & input, roarah. I never would have thought about the difference between sill-length and a bit lower, but I see your point.

I don't really want Roman shades, as I want to keep the blinds, and I'd like something to cover the sides of the blinds, but thank you for the suggestion.

As for the panels to the floor, that was my first choice, but the radiator cover extends out so far that I'm not sure that will look right, even with holdbacks.

I have printed out a couple of pics of the window above the radiator, and I'm going to sketch out your suggestions to see how they look. I'll let you know what I decide.

Oh, and the bed: There is a floor vent between the bed & radiator cover, so we can't move the bed too much closer. Luckily the frame is on wheels, so it's easy to roll when making the bed.

One more question: Normally I line draperies, but since I'm using burlap, I wonder if unlined might look more light-diffusing & charming. Thoughts?

I meant kind of fake shades above your existing blinds, but I see your point about the sides.

I think the difference with window sill length curtains in Europe is that Windows have properly deep sills, so they're more framing, like a stage :)

Here is a picture of my window seats that extend out far from edge of window with panels. I like them when I spend an hour tweeking them but within minutes they fall like this again :(

I see what you mean. I like the look of yours (very pretty and welcoming room with soothing colors), but mine would only be like this on one window--on the other window, the panels would hang straight down due to no rad cover there. I don't want them to be different. That would bug me every time I entered the room!

You know one thing that I think would make you happier with your panels? Shortening them so that they don't quite reach the floor. Then the weight from the curtain panels would pull out the unwelcome folds and creases. You can even sew in some curtain weights-or fishing weights-to the hems, perhaps only on the outer side of the panels.

thank you I will try anything for they are expensive to redo. I can actually move my rod up an inch or more so I might not need to even hem! I am off to look up weights!
