I would change the lamps first. I like your lamps, but they say trendy to me and not modern or industrial or African.

Really like the new rug. I don't think you need any more accessories. If you want to change anything I would change the coffee table with a big round one and have small one between the chairs. I am one of those people that doesn't like family photos in the living areas but art does set a tone. Your room is great.

I think the room is beautiful, as is your new rug purchase. Can you bring African theme in with a few added pillows? Woven basket under tripod with a few patterned throws? You did a wonderful job with this room!

Well if it is the African vibe you are going for then get rid of the red pillows, and instead move to prints in cheetah, or tiger, or zebra, a bit of metallic with silver or gold thread pillows, and some suede in bronze, rust, golden tan/yellow.

I also think you need a rougher more industrial pair of lamps. The room does look beautiful as it is but it is fun to let it evolve too!

The updates look lovely! You're definitely on the right direction. I would replace the table lamps and possible add a few more touches of colour through out.

What is the main color? Rust or Gray? There are two different colors for the rug, sofa & large artwork.

I adore that carpet choice!! I also think your lamps are fine and would only try some new burlap shades to play up more of their texture.

In adding photos, do you have some wall space between this area and the next? Photos hung vertically can help define the transition, and using texture such as additional burlap, grasscloth or flat woven reed for their matting will tie them in.

You could use a more industrial ceiling fan. Look at aged or caged choices.

For the rest of your accessories, try rough woods, hammered metals, native fabrics and hides to make your mark: replacing the topiary with grass, the shiny ceramic with brass, etc. The more you can accomplish with textures, the more sophisticated the statement will be.
