Kitchen lighting

We recently got a leak above kitchen and had to cut open ceiling..while it's open we thought we should do recessed lighting. My husband wants all recessed on the side where island/kitchen area is to open it up so we are taking down hanging light. I would like some decorative lighting so I was wondering if I should do pendants over kitchen table..I attached a pic of my current kitchen..don't mind the mess! I also attached an idea of pendants I am thinking of. Thoughts?? I don't know the rules for color/style of lighting with furniture/appliance style so I would love any ideas! Thanks!

These pendants are what I recommend. All our guests have commented on how beautiful and simple they are
Note that you could put matching pendants over your dining room table. You can't see it on the photo, but the globes look like crackle glass. Hope this helps.

Recessed in the kitchen is a smart change. You could do something like the Eldridge over the kitchen table. An open or minimal design so as not to obstruct the view between living and kitchen. Your style seems neutral so I'd look for transitional fixtures. The boob light will be going, yes?

Hello, I hope this isn’t bad protocol or anything, but I’ve been wondering about the same thing. I have recessed lights around the perimeter of my kitchen, and two small pendants hanging over the island. I’ve never cared for the pendants, and have thought about changing them out to recessed lights. Is that what you are saying too? No hanging light over the island? And do we agree it is a good idea? Just trying to be clear here.

I think the space could use the hanging pendant (over both table and island) i think the rectangular fixture recommended above is too long--you want something that is proportional to the table. a square or round fixture would be pretty, and the lights over island and table should be related or possibly even the same. Restoration hardware is always a good place to begin looking, and Houzz marketplace has a ton of lighting too! I'd start by looking at kitchens you admire on Houzz, and see how they've used two fixtures that are in close proximity. Good luck!

Unfortunately my husband really wants island area to be open so the compromise is getting a hanging light over table. He cares way more about this project than I do!

What about something this shape?

A drum is a great option-- will diffuse light out and down to table. Hang on to any extra chain when you install in case you or future owner places dining height table below. I would avoid white linen and look for sand/linen color and bronze finish.

What are the dimensions of your table? Did I miss you posting them?

The drum is attractive, but the opacity of the shade means you'll always be trying to look around the light to see across the space. If you go with drums, choose a more transparent style. Many drums come in multiple sizes, so knowing the table size helps in ordering the right one. HTH

do at least 6 recessed lights in the kitchen area. tell your husband to check out the LED recessed lights at Costco. they are retro fit. Prices are crazy cheap and they are decent lights.

you could do a small pendant over the sink if you want.

as for the pendant over the table, the drum may block the view as opposed to something more 'open'.

Look online at LampsPlusOpenBox. they have some great deals with limited selection. Or go over to the regular Lamps Plus.

Thanks everyone...I may have talked him into going back to mini pendants over island instead. Not sure if we will hold off on something over table or extend recessed there..that ceiling is fine so it isn't necessary we do it now. I don't like making decisions! I appreciate all of the advice though!
