This is my very favorite conifer (shhhh...don't tell the others in my garden...) I have three of them and since I buy practically every one that I see, I will certainly end up with more. I hear tell that you can grow these from cuttings (Dave is that true?) so you might want to hedge your bets by setting a few this winter. The color on this cultivar is just breathtaking.

Indeed they are mostly propagated by rooting cuttings, but in this case, the goal was a grafted standard. Based on what 'Greenstead Magnificent' looks like after 10 years, it's a questionable decision ...

Whatever the situation at the moment I am pretty sure I have seen this plant at at least one garden center here in the recent past. Maybe they got it from Buchholz.

It's also been for sale in Oregon previously because The Plant Locator - Western Region (2004, Black-Eyed Susans) lists Peace of Mind and River Rock for it.

... what was in 2004 is rarely the case in 2017. I routinely visit all of the major nurseries in WA or OR in person. I'm quite sure of myself when I say it's, "not available."

David the next one that I see is yours. Right now I don't see them at my usual haunts. But I will keep my eyes open.

Thanks people. It's very disappointing that it probably won't survive! I really like this conifer.

I might keep my eye out for another one, and make sure to check the graft union and thickness of the trunk before I buy.

Don't give up hope. And remember, we learn more from our failures than our successes.
