Yikes! October already!

Everything here looks crunchy and dried out, a lot of brown leaves on the trees. I think we won't have a great foliage season this year. Foliage in my pots of marigolds, tinged by last month's early frost, has been bouncing back and the plants have developed new flower buds, only to probably be swatted down for good by frosts that are predicted later this week.

Well, I can't post pictures on houzz today, so I'll try a video link that I made Friday to show you my dry, crunchy yard. iPhone SE hand-held, just for fun. Anybody else getting the green spinning wheel while trying to post photos?

Another melon harvest 44lbs.

Oddly my dahlias and gladiolus have had tons of blooms this week and last (I planted about 4-6 weeks late...oops). And my roses have had some incredible cane and basal cane growth!

A few things are still blooming here, including three clematis putting out a few blooms each

Hydrangea serrata Tuff Stuff which is blue when it first flowers, but which ages to this mellow pink until frost.

And for Kali_C a photo of clematis Rooguchi taken last week. It has been blooming since midJuly I think. I really love the bell-shaped clematis!

The sunflowers have gone by, but cosmos of both orange and pink are still blooming. I hope that the snapdragons will begin to bloom en masse before an inevitable frost claims them. The foliage (lower right in the picture) looks so promising.

The sunflower seeds will be ready to harvest in a week or so, so Prairiemoon, if you're reading this, and if you still would like some, shoot me your mailing address at spedigre@sover.net and I will send them when the time comes.

Nasturtiums and marigolds in their current state of neglect are still in flower. I'm done collecting seeds from them for next year, it has been raining frequently enough to keep them watered without my help, and I keep expecting a frost to kill them, so they've been on their own for a week or more.

My toad lilies have many tiny flowers and are more visible now. I'm beginning to see that their potential lies in numbers. Do these plants spread? (I hope so!)

And lastly my morning glories are really going to town. Unfortunately the supposed moon vine that is planted amongst them turned out to be a 4 o-clock vine! One of its purple flowers is barely visible partially hidden by two leaves at the left in the picture. I'm guessing the seeds I bought were mis-labelled. I purchased more moon flower seeds from 2 different places after discovering that these supposed moon flowers were imposters, and I intend to plant some from each packet next year in hopes of actually seeing some night-blooming white flowers!

Beautyberry was planted in August. I love the color of these berries and hope each year is this abundant.

spedigrees, it is however I'm not sure what kind. the bloom is a couple of inches across and the plant is about 18 inches tall.

This is the first year for these Asters ‘Raydon’s Favorite’ and I’m happy with how full they are. Next year the mums next to them will be large enough to see as well but this year the mums are way too small.
