I think you just ask. It's okay to say you're not sure how to ask it exactly, but you're wondering about....whatever it is.

Liv, I think we're a little confused about what you are asking... what are you trying to do? Is it how to "find a professional" in your area? Or are you wanting feedback on a design dilemma and you're hoping for feedback from the "pros" in this forum? Or is there a specific pro that you would like feedback from?

Rhizo, if you go to a party, and you ask a person that you know is a Dr for his/her opinion on your sore shoulder, they will either be irritated that one is using a social situation to ask a "medicine" question and will likely encourage you to call the office for an appt. That is their biz and they would like to get paid for it, not to mention that you may be taking advantage of a social situation to get "free" advice.

But I have to admit OP wasn't clear about what kind of advice from what kind of professional so need a lot more info.

Now, ask the same Dr, an avid gardener, a question about front lawn landscaping, and he might be too happy to help and talk your ear off on the subject.

Depends on situation, which is not clear to me but personally, I wouldn't ask a professional (even a relative) a question specific to his/her field w/o expecting to pay or at least offer.

Ha, ha, ha. ha, ha. Lots of great professionals provide lots of great advice here for free. Okay, I got a Starbucks card once.

Pay the invoice they send you and you can ask as many questions as you want until your time runs out.

The success of a site like this one is partly due to pros who help the inquiring minds out of the goodness of their heart. I'm still not sure that OP meant a asking a question on this site, maybe she did. My mind went directly to her contacting a pro, by any means, and asking a specific question. How many pros would spend all day answering questions instead of securing contracts and doing the work scope?

I am trying to mount this 3 shelf dvd player holder on thein the center of the wall. however the wood stud is not aligned center. how can i mount it to be centered?

Place the rack where you want it and use this plastic anchor and screw that you can purchase from HD or Lowes into the drywall. If each screw can hold 75 lbs, you'll have no issue with this coming off the wall.

Just remember to not mount this too high.
