You can definitely spruce it up with a console preferably in a venge stain or glass top. New wall art and mirrors for sure.

Are you looking for a change by only removing or adding items? Not sure if you like the suggestion, but you might want to consider e fresh color on the walls so the grandfathers clock and other dark stained wooden pieces stand out from it. Maybe a fresh egg blue or pale color?

Do you maybe miss a spot to drop your keys and post. You could make a nice spot next to the entry. With a nice cabinet and a cute bowl for these items or whatever you think is beautiful and useful at the same time. I'm all for artful items you can actually use.

Is there any daylight coming in to the hallway? I also think the round rug makes the hall seem smaller. Would you consider exchanging it for something lighter?

I recommend replacing the rug with the largest rectangular rug that will fit. This visually draws the ye to the edges of the space making it feel larger. I would choose something a little lighter and brighter but still with pattern to be more durable for through traffic. If you can, I would add a small console table or chest with a lamp. I don't see any outlets but maybe there's one behind the clock. I would place a mirror above the chest (behind the lamp) which will amplify the light from the lamp. This could be a place to put keys and if you choose a chest with drawers, you can store hats, gloves, umbrellas, etc. On the remaining walls I would add art. Around the thermostat I would arrange a gallery wall and the other two spaces I would choose one piece each of art. Preferably it is art you have that has meaning for you and creates a sense of welcome and reflects your personality or history.

I'd remove the table and change the rug.
