Problem with Bosch Induction cooktop

Hello, we recently installed a Bosch Induction cooktop. I am having nothing but problems with it. I have purchased all new Lagostina (induction approved) pots and fry pans. Tested all of them with magnets. The problem is only the big pots work. The smaller/medium pots and fry pans only work on the smallest burner. Which means I can only cook small amounts on 1 burner. So frustrating when I am making dinner for an entire family. When I try to use the medium and small pots, the heat number selected just flashes and the burner does not turn on. Even if the pot covers the entire surface of the burner. What is happening???

The pot sensor isn't sensing your pots. The Lagostina appear to be good pots, but there's more to being induction ready than having a magnet stick. Actually...does the magnet stick to the outer edges of the bottom? Some pots are made with a thicker steel area in the bottom to make them more induction compatible. If yours are, and there's not enough steel at the edges the sensors might not work there.

Do you have a cast iron pan? Or a Graniteware or similar steel pot? If so, you could test them and compare to see if it's the sensor that's bad (warranty call), or the pans that are insufficient.

Thanks for the insight. Unfortunately I do not have a cast iron pan to test, but will try the magnet on the outer bottom edges of my Lagostina pots. Great suggestion, thx again.

I don't doubt Jakvis's thumb rule, but I have Gaggenau which is a sister company to Bosch, and my rings will recognize a pot down to 4" in diameter (at the bottom), so a thumb and several fingers in. I think they're happier when I put the small pots on the small element, but the larger rings do sense them.

It occurs to me (I don't know why it didn't before) that the instructions should say what sized pots it accepts.

I would take your pots to a showroom that has a live cooktop - preferably the same model you have and try them there. If they are sensed then I would contact Bosch. I tested a Bosch benchmark cooktop with several pans and the only ones that were not sensed on all burners was a 4.5" pan on the large hob. Which model do you have?

Kim - What a great idea....I will take my pots into the appliance store. Try them out there!! I never thought of that. That is why I post questions on this forum - Brilliant responses ;)

I have the 36" 800 Series NIT8666SUC with autochef. Here is a pic to help articulate my problem.

I have medium & sma pots (tested w/magnet) that only work on the smallest burner even though they completely the other two med burners. So I can only use 1 burner with my med and small pots. 1 burner!! So frustrating when I am trying to feed a family

Off center? From the right hand photos I think you have the pots off center. I think you need to have the pot straddle the horizontal lines, a single horizontal line indicating the burner area is not as intuitive as a round outline. Please try and report back.

The lines are like cross hairs. You put your pots centered on top of the lines not in front or in back.. The reason you are having trouble is you are only using half the burner.

I have a Bosch induction cooktop too (mine has the round lines to mark the burners). I can tell you that my little pots never are as close to the edge of the cooktop as yours are. I think jakvis and venmar are on to something!.

Out of curiosity I went to the Bosch website to see exactly what the product looked like Bosch NIT8666SUC I can't for the life of me understand how the OP did not understand where to place her pans.

Jarvis, please remove yourself from this thread.

I have this Bosch P64IEON of which i have been using, but my power tripped off later when power was restored it only blinks but no power ?

Power cycle the cooktop one more time. Find the breaker in your breaker box, turn it all the way off, wait 60 seconds, then turn it on again. Sometimes, when power fails, it doesn't come back on in an orderly fashion and their are voltage spikes and dips. That can confuse appliances.

If that doesn't fix the problem, it's time to call customer service.

It is a terrible product! Do not buy Bosch INDUCTION.

I’ve had my Bosch induction for 5 years without problem. I can use any size pot on any burner provided they are induction ready. I love it! So easy to clean compared to my old gas cooktop. Things heat up fast and burners are responsive. I did have to buy all new cookware, but that was the fun part. I use All Clad and Staub without any problems.

You are very lucky...mine does not work like that. Sadly they told me it was working fine, which is total BS. I have tried all types of induction cookware from average to pricey and the heat is not distributed evenly. It only cooks in the center. The company refuses to solve the problem and its a shame. Terrible customer service. BOO to BOSCH

I just bought a home that has a Bosch cook top. Why are my pots n pans not working on them. Do I have to buy special cookwear.

If that cooktop is in fact induction, you got a nice upgrade from a traditional flat top range. Enjoy! It'll be much more responsive. In many ways, it cooks more like gas than like a old school electric stove. So, you might have a small learning curve. But it's well worth it.

Almost all modern cookware is compatible with induction, but some older pots aren't. A quick test is to see whether a magnet sticks to your pots. It'll always work for cast iron and for carbon steel. It might or might not work for stainless steel. And it generally won't work for aluminum, copper, ceramic or glass, unless the manufacturer embedded a steel disk.

If you quickly want to buy some induction compatible cookware without breaking the back, then IKEA is often a good option. Their pots are not all that bad, price is fair, and they are known to work with induction

My Bosch is autistic in the worse way, won't turn on, turns off for no reason in the middle of cooking. And of course I can't see the controls which are stenciled in so lightly that they are impossible to see. Very frustrating, when it was installed took two service calls to get anyone who had the "right" touch to get it to turn on. Terrible product, bad design.

Jonathan - I am here looking for insight on whether I should purchase an induction stove and your review is helpful. Thanks. One thing, using "autistic" to describe a negative attribute will be somewhat offensive to some people. I see it used a lot in this way, and point it out when I can to try to decrease its use in this way.

I have a 36” Bosch inductive cooktop with an adjacent downdraft fan. The unit is sleek and very good looking. The glass surface scratches much easier than I expected. I purchased a new set of Cic

Sorry, continuing the above comment. I purchased a new set of Circulon Symmerty inductive cookware to use with the cooktop. Using this cooktop almost always ends up to be a frustrating endeavor. I cannot cook a complete meal without the cooktop shutting off, reducing the power level to 1 or 2, or flashing the control panel panel along with an endless series of repeating beeps. I always turn the cooktop circuit breaker off after using it as thee cooktop will start it’s obnoxious series of beeping in the middle of the night and wake up everyone. There is nothing on or near the cooktop and I clean it every night. This is the most frustrating appliance or piece of machinery I’ve ever owned. I’ve read many review of this product on a range of websites about the lengths many users are trying to successfully use this cooktop, including things like laying their arms across the top to try to get the controls to function. My clean cooktop has been beeping the entire time I’ve been typing this comment. This is a poorly designed product. I am shocked Bosch continues to market this product given the difficulties so many uses are having. They need to instruct strongly warn people the touchiness of this product. I don’t think it should be on the market, even though some like it, they must have the exact right combination of unit, cookware, and cooking method.

First of all, I’m a huge fan of induction. Incredible speed to heat/boil contents. Almost magical. And much less peripheral heat compared to gas. So, all the speed and evenness of gas but not the spill over heat. We used one for years while living in Europe.

When we moved back to the US, I immediately started shopping for an induction cooktop to replace the electric radiant glass cooktop in our kitchen.

Similar to many posts above, we made the mistake of buying the 36” Bosch induction cooktop NIT8668SUC/01. Surprise, but it keeps turning off when you have a pot cooking on low. Doesn’t turn off if elements are on high or powerboost. It has done this from day 1. We can’t leave something simmering because it will cut off and you may not notice it in time to turn back on and things aren’t ready for dinner as expected. Strangely enough, once it turns off the element and you turn that element back on a couple times, it will stay on for the rest of the evening. Almost as if by warming up the unit, it stops turning itself off. That’s opposite behavior to what the authorized service technician said was the underlying problem. He said we must not have enough air circulation in the cabinet underneath. But, opposite to his diagnosis, they don’t turn themselves off when you have them on power boost and the contents are boiling rapidly. Perhaps there is a logic fault and at low heat the internal cooling fan doesn’t kick in soon enough but with the element on powerboost or set to 9, the unit heats up quickly and the cooling fan kicks in quicker and avoids an internal over heat situation. Just guessing at this point to understand root cause of the failure.

We have our cookware from Ikea that we purchased while living In Europe. Ikea is known for it’s reliability on induction cooktops. You can also use the magnet test if you have any doubt. Strong attraction all the way to the edge of the pot. We are also very familiar with the use of induction and always make sure we are using the proper size and positioning of the pot.

So, l strongly suggest that anyone AVOID buying the BOSCH induction cooktop. I had hoped buying the higher end and going with a well known name of Bosch would result in a great experience but was sorely disappointed.

I’m currently working through additional troubleshooting to identify the malfunctioning part and replacing it. If I find a solution, I’ll share with those suffering along with us.

I have never had any of the problems mentioned and I've had my Bosch Induction Cooktop for 2 years now.

I promised to provide an update once I finished troubleshooting the cooktop. It turned out to be the power boards for the right side and middle sections. I ordered replacements from appliance parts pro and replaced it myself. The unit is now working fine. As I knew all along it had nothing to do with our pots or the installation in the cabinet. This also explains why some people have great service with these units and others of us had horrible. It all depends on the manufacturing quality of these critical components.

Looking forward to long-term use of this unit. If you’re having trouble and people keep telling you it is your pot, perform the magnet test and if all looks good, tell them to fix your stove top and don’t accept anything less.

I have had a Bosch Induction range for 3-1/2 years and love it (while it's working that is). We have had some problems with it but never with the pans not heating up. We have a large set of Kitchen Aid pots and pans that have worked beautifully. They have a very flat & heavy bottom but also the sides are triple layered (the outer layers being stainless steel with the middle layer being aluminum which transmits the heat up the sides). A magnet sticks to all parts of the pots. Maybe this is what is making the difference - will always look for this feature when buying any future sizes.

However, two years in and the cooktop control panel started malfunctioning on and off (with many visits from the technician) and then stopped working altogether and had to be replaced - it was still under warranty, thank goodness. We were told by the technician that running the self clean feature for the oven can over heat the circuitry & essentially fry it. So, that was a bit upsetting - something the salespeople in the showroom don't tell you. Now it's back to hand cleaning - woohoo!

Our second problem is that the 'broil' feature does not seem to work. The top element comes on nice & bright and hot then turns off. So, you may start to broil something & within a minute or two it's off (and stays off). The oven is still hot but the food near the top element does not broil (just bakes at a high temperature). The manual says to keep the door closed (which is different from the usual method) - so we tried it with the door closed and with it open - still no difference. Our previous induction range from a different manufacturer worked perfectly, so it's not the 'induction' part that stops it from working. The company doesn't accept the fact that it doesn't work even though the technician couldn't make it perform either as a regular oven - they say, all new ovens are like that now.

Sorry to be so long winded about all this - but does anyone else have this problem?

If so, have you found a solution?

I have the same problems as described by the people in this thread where the cooktop (Bosch NITP668SUC) initially would start beeping and turn off. Then we would reset the circut breaker and it would most of the time finish cooking our meal without turning off again. Then it progressed to where it was more often, maybe twice while cooking. Then it went to where it does it every time. Then it went to where it was actually turning itself "on" sometimes in the middle of the night after it had been off for some time. We completely stopped using it and now trying to figure out if it's something that is fixable, can i reset it...or is it just defective and junk. After searching the web for months now. I have come to the conclusion the model is a defective model and it has something to do with failure of the electronics. None of the service companies listed on Bosch web site are willing to look at it. The unit is only 3 years old and was rarely used as the first two years the house was mostly vacant. I'm actually afraid now to buy another induction cook top because of how bad this one acted. Definitely will try a different brand. If anyone knows a way to try and reset it by pushing some of the buttons in sequence or what ever can save me from having to spend $2k on another cooktop when this one is only 3 years old.

    In answer to Sean Iwasaki:

I wrote a post on this 3 months ago (see above). Since having the motherboard replaced (~ 1-1/2 years ago) we have not had any more problems with the cooktop - no beeping, no stopping. Works perfectly.

However, as I mentioned in my previous comments, the technician at the time told us that it is the extreme heat from the oven's self cleaning function that essentially fry's the electronics in the cooktop's control panel. I have since found a fairly easy way to clean the oven by hand so I'm OK with not using the self cleaning function (apparently it also breaks down the interior coating in the oven as well).

So, if you are ok with cleaning the oven by hand I would recommend spending a few dollars and having it repaired rather than a few thousand for a new appliance.

I would like to ask again if anyone has any problems with the 'broil' function? Ours keeps turning off (like within minutes) so we can never finish searing anything.
