I am in Monterey County and I lost mine over a winter when the temp dipped to 25-30. The local Salinas hospital has a couple large specimens and I think they are just protected enough from the cold/under eaves that they thrive. Mine was in good health, but out in the open. Good luck!

Try covering it with a breathable frost cloth. Amazon carries all different sizes.

Judging from your experiences and suggestions, I'll need a lot of luck as my microclimate can get quite cold, I'll have to hope locating it near my house will offer enough protection.

I get frost at my house too. It gets below 32 quite often in the winter and usually will dip below 25 as well. I have a very frost sensitive plant near my garage (where it gets reflective heat) and I have to cover it or else it will not make it. I think putting it next to your house is a good idea and should help, but in my case, I still have to protect my plant during those chilly winter nights.

Mine would be about half under the eaves so perhaps with some extra protection it'll be fine. I live in a low cold spot in Portola Valley and temps have dropped as low as 9. That was over 30 years ago. Much more recently, perhaps 10 years ago or so, temps dropped into the teens, but normally it is rare to go below 25.

My hibiscus has survived many cold nights down here in San Jose. Down around 28 a few times. It is planted next to the house and I lose foliage every winter but chop it to the ground and it grows like a weed all summer. Here it is once summer is halfway over.

Very pretty! but not at all like my plant. Wish mine looked that lush! My plant is from Western Australia and is a different sort of Hibiscus, though they certainly seem to share similar limitations on hardiness.
