Can you have a cabinet built to match your kitchen? I’m attaching a picture of mine. Left of refrigerator.

I think you will have long term best value, to reproduce the cabinetry that exists with your desired 30 inch micro, some drawer and cupboard storage above below. The quick lipstick thing may have appeal now, but you will end up spending money twice. Get a 79.00 cheapie for the counter until you're ready to do it right. You won't regret it.

That’s a beautiful cabinet, Brenda, I looked into custom cabinets and got quotes as high as $2000. Do you know how much you paid? The one from ikea fits the space perfectly and is only a little over $400 which is why I am leaning towards a ready made cabinet. I like bohemian styles, lots of colors, would t have chosen these kinds of cabinets personally but of course they are nice.

R.A. This was built with my kitchen remodel. It Dura Supreme cabinets. The micro fits in a box so I’m not married to it if it dies. My cabinets were stock sizes so not very expensive but well made. Get a quote to build one like it. It will add value to your kitchen and you will have more storage.

Where is the most reasonable place to get a custom made cabinet? Lowe’s gave me the quote of around $2000, there has got to be something cheaper?

this might work really well. It is 31-1/2" wide which would be good. Stainless countertop and a small microwave would probably fit on it. You would have to measure. But this is only $356.99 right here on Houzz! Might be good solution for you. Since there are a million whites, it probably won't match your cabinets, so I might go for it in black. It comes in black. But you can search around using the idea and see what you can find. I would search for an antique for this spot if it were me. Great bargains and really great quality pieces out there if you hunt around a bit. I'll post a photo of a kitchen that worked this concept into their design.

The gray/blue section of this kitchen is a Hoosier. This is a great small space and good utilization too.

$2000 is a bargain for 36” of cabinets that house a built in MW, or even a MW shelf. Beyond a bargain if that includes installation.

That IKEA cabinet is a cute idea in theory, but it's not going to look good. Is it even the same height as your other cabs? How are you going to handle transitioning the molding on the top of the existing cabs?

It's also expensive. It's $400, but does that include an end panel? And it's designed for a built in microwave - so that's pricey, and may mean you can't install yourself. Plus, you are going to spend half a day at IKEA and then still have to put it together and install it.

Just buy this and a new, smaller countertop microwave. Unpack and live with the kitchen for a little while.

What about a turquoise micro in the white unit above? Pick up the same color elsewhere in the kitchen. I still think a custom cabinet will add to your kitchen. Find a local cabinet shop that sells semi custom cabinets. You also don’t have to go with the first bid from Lowe’s. Shop around. I got my whole kitchen cabinets in plywood construction for almost half of what another company wanted for furniture grade, which is particle board.

Avoid big box stores when shopping for custom cabinetry. That's not what they do and the prices they quotes don't accurately reflect what you can get for $2000.

A few years ago, I was looking for a TV cabinet with a hydraulic lift. Ordering it pre-made was astronomical. I found a local cabinet maker and he did it for a fraction of the cost which included ordering and installing the lift in the cabinet. And it was just what I wanted as far as size, style, color, etc.

I agree with the comment about the IKEA cabinet not going well in your new kitchen. the difference is quality will stand out not matter what color the doors are.

I suggest you call a local cabinet maker, have him come in and give you an estimate. He may be able to cut corners for cost that won't impact the look the way mass produced cabinets do.

Alternately, cabinet stores do sometimes make mistakes and have extra cabinets that didn't fit or got nicked or the customer bailed after leaving a deposit and the cabinets arrived. Check around and see if one of them might have a base and upper that would fit your space with the same door style.

It's worth a try.
