Kitchen suggestions

Need some suggestion on the kitchen layout, sink is in the island more with work space on the right side. Pantry also goes under staircase ( which isn't shown) , should I push the cupboards that are on the master wall into the panty area, making the pantry 2 ft deep and going under

staircase?? That would loose the wall by the fridge

I would lose the pantry altogether. You can accomplish the same storage with cabinets and open the room instead. You can reclaim the under stairs storage from the hallway on the other side.

I'm flabbergasted that an architect would actually draw that plan with the pantry so close to the island.

If you make it into a corner pantry (not my favorite, but in this case it would work), and then move the ovens to that side, it would open up the kitchen to the DR, and allow more light from the window to enter the kitchen. That would also place the MW closer to the fridge, for easy re-heating of left-overs.

Is the pic from a model kitchen in a spec home? If you have the latitude, I'd suggest making the island longer, to provide more prep space to the right of the sink, and making the cabinets on the fridge wall deeper, or at least pulling out standard depth cabinets to the same depth as the fridge box.

Thank you very much for your help, and your drawing are greatly appreciate, yes the kitchen picture is one I've found online closest to my new kitchen. I would like the cabinets right to the ceiling with the glass doors. The builder is going to build up the fridge wall so everyone is flush with the fridge . I honestly think the arcitect totally misunderstood when I said I wanted the door on a flat wall as the corner pantry is not my favorite look either. I also really want to utilize the under the stairs storage for small appliances etc . Not sure about making the island longer as I think I have 13 feet to the dining room wall , maybe wider though . You have been a great help

Your original idea of extending the cabinets toward the stairs would allow you to make the cabinets on the cooktop wall a few inches shorter, but I'd still suggest adding 6", or so, to the island, to give you more prep space.

You'd need to check the slope of the stairs, to make sure that it's not a head-banger in the pantry. Or you could only half the space under the stairs for the pantry, and have a closet which opens to the hallway on the other side, similar to what Cabintex,Inc suggested.

thank you for your suggestions, I like the first idea , along with accessing the under the stairs storage for small appliances and the "occasionally" used items. the island can be made to my specs, yes I would like it to be as big as possible. you also like the wall oven next to the pantry door?
