those are two very different woods. walnut can show scratches very easily. have pets and kids?

red oak, if stained light, will show a pinkish tone. if you want oak, and want it light, pick a white oak.

My pick for your flooring would be a wide plank, french oak type of flooring.

I have dark chocolate oak doors and wanted a brown with dark brown swirls/veins to bring out color in the doors.

the first one is oak. if you want that dark, red oak will be fine. If you do a solid hardwood, you can do a custom stain. that dark of a color would be a Java/Espresso or Dark Walnut color.

The walnut floors in your second pic seem to have a tad darker tone to them as well. If it's just u in the house, they would work. But, walnut is not a super hard wood (unless you get the super Brazilian Walnut or something, and that's major cash)and costs more than the red oak. So, weigh your options.

this is a wide planked walnut and a hand scraped look walnut. this would be a bit more durable or show less than those finely polished or super dark walnut floors.

this one is a american black walnut and is really pretty. These will be considerable more than the red oak.

you do know that keeping those dark floors clean and dust free is an everyday job, right?

Yes. It's a 600 sq ft luxury rental to one person. The current floor is custom stained to a dark solid chocolate ( see first photo) and yes, you will get surface scratches. This is another color below I considered. Warmer tones. Thoughts?

You should be able to find 5 inch walnut at a local lumber dealer or you could have them mill it for you.

Beautiful!! The issue I'm having is that I'm trying to stay away from any red or light blonde tones. Most everyplace I have been too carries mostly prefinished. Therefore, whatever you get out of the box is it.

You will need to finish the floors on site with a custom stain to get a little more control over the final colors. Thats what this particular client did.

What wood or stain color did you use for the boxed out piece in photo?
