Houttuynia cordata 'Chameleon'

To me it is a foe, but to each his own.

With a quick search, reports show this to be so invasive that I feel dirty even having it in a small section in my garden. Still, I have no idea how it got there but I now I am all out to get rid of it. I read that multiple applications of pure Round Up are not all that effective.

The red trim apparently goes away after it is established. The fleshy roots are deep enough that root barriers are ineffective and, although prefers acid soil, can tolerate the alkalinity of lawns and thrives no matter show short you cut the grass.

Yikes.....
(Can one ever have just one Yike?)

I have successfully dug this out by going deep and wide. It is edible. The taste apparently depends on the soil it is growing in. Here it is spicy and a tad citrus.
