If it were me, I'd demo them. They aren't necessary to the scheme. I'd also demo and enlarge the porch. My problem with brick like this is the weather always ends up breaking it down as it's too exposed to the elements. If you live in zone 7 down to 3 you are going to have winter snow and ice. Brick elements like that or brick stairs never hold up to that or take a lot of maintenance over time, IMO. In another thread you said you wanted your house to be more modern and getting rid of those elements would help clean it up and make it more modern.

I think they're perfectly sharp as they are. You could always run planters along the tops of them, with spiky grasses and drippy vines...

The curved sidewalk is fine, IMO and fits the 50s/60s style of the home. I think if you introduce the choppy sidewalk effect, it will look off. What you might be wanting is mid-century modern (because that's truly what "modern" means in architecture) instead of contemporary (which is not going to work with your house's vibe).

With the house's static, straight lines, you need some curves and that sidewalk does exactly what it's meant to do: Introduce a curve into the scheme instead of yet more angles.

Think more of an asian aesthetic and you'll get to the more modern look you want, IMO. This look is about long, clean, horizontal lines punctuated with architectural verticals and natural elements which break them up artistically. You already have the horizontals and angles, what you're lacking is the vertical hits. See the below photos for examples and note the big rocks and curves:
