We are looking at hickory flooring and as per this photograph, wanting to use random widths to add more character. One vendor has used the term "proportional" flooring. What is the appropriate mix of 4", 6" and 8" planks? I would think that using more wider planks gives a preferred effect as opposed to 2 4" planks for every 8" used.
