It's been a while since I asked so I'll try again. Does anyone have experience with this dry deck product?

Hi, we also are looking for a dry decking material. We are considering building a 3 season room and using admiral spacemaker as the floor to replace a failed Duradek surface that serves as a deck and garage roof. What did you wind up using for your project? Are you happy with it?

Hi. I used it in many installations and it is good as advertised. That said, installation of the ENTIRE SYSTEM exactly as specified is critical. I have finished spaces under Spacemaker and wholeheartedly recommend it.

My name is Josh of White's Carpentry of maine. I have just recently did a spacemaker by admiral deck in windham maine . I love this product. There is alot of prep and flashing for this product. But as long as you follow there instructions you'll never have a problem. Im currently finishing up today a deck with a 3 seasons porch with this product. I just noticed these two comments from actual users. We STILL haven't done anything. It is reassuring to finally get some (good) feedback but I'm still hesitant to use a product that seems to have so little use several years after it was introduced and lauded in a magazine article. I look forward to seeing the videos, Joshua. Hopefully there will be more reports in the near future.

Hi mdod, I actually run the nationwide distribution for SpaceMaker. We have thousands of installations but just moved nationwide at the beginning of 2020. We have been on the market for over 8 years with zero product failures. The reviews from Josh and William are very accurate. We have vey specific details(especially for the ledger board area) that we want to make sure are followed to ensure a 100% watertight seal for decades. And just to address your ASA comment in a little more detail. We know that using a 100% percent cap coat of ASA means that the SpaceMaker board will fade under 1.5 shades in 15 years. Every other board will fade more then 5 shades in 5 years. This is not our data, but BASF's independent data that they allow us to use. Every other deck board will use 5-10% ASA and dilute it with PVC or another material. They do this because ASA is expensive, but this leads to their boards fading and being more prone to stains as well. Let me know any other questions you may have.

I'm the original poster. We STILL haven't done anything with our deck 4 years later but it's in pretty bad shape! I'm really interested in this product but there is STILL very little information about this product online. I'd love to hear from others that have first hand experience.

We installed the Spacemaker product as replacement decking to create a lab underneath in consultation with the guy that invented it, the distributor for the Mid Atlantic, and a local installer approximately 24 months ago.

Due to the complexity of our project we had to handle all the work ourselves using the step-by-step instructions (based on site inspections, pictures, and drawings for each phase and condition encountered) provided by the Spacemaker folks, our architect, multiple engineers, and skilled labor. Along the way we encountered most if not all the standard conditions Spacemaker has solutions for as was a number that required inventing novel ones.

The idea of the product is most compelling. That said, the truth can and often is stranger than fiction. We learned a lot in the process and would be happy to share our experience with you or anyone else contemplating the use of this product. My email is barnhard@barnhard.com.
