Is it me or are the front windows covered in plywood? Shutters need to go but you know that. What else are you working with? It seems you have cream vinyl soffits and bronze aluminum windows?

I vote for cream or buff for all the brick, paint any remaining trim the vinyl color (not my favorite but...) and of course lose the shutters.

The black solar screens are on the front windows. There's some kind of cover over garage windows too. Some of the trim and garage door is a dark gray/taupe color

I like your inspiration pick. I prefer painted brick and I think it can make a house look much more modern. However I don't know how the green roof is going to look. I think that's a harder shell to crack than the shutters. All that said I'd go with a light beige and keep the corners the same color, the change in contour of the corner bricks will provide their own color difference and trying to highlight those corners might look busy.

Landscaping is harder without knowing what you want. Seems like you like in a dry climate. If you're not going to keep up the grass then I suggest xeriscaping the areas that don't grow grass very well.

The shutters are not sized accurately. This is lime Wash. Less maintenance over the long period. I'm a Mason and I don't see anything wrong with painted brick therefore, mom and dad if this is what you really want than go for it. All the Best.

Thanks for your input! I like the limewash look. I agree the yard needs help especially on the sides under the tree. If they go beige on the brick, should they keep a darker trim color like the current garage color? Or creamy white like the back?

This is a very nice, classic, color of brick, and I would not paint it -- that will make the house require more upkeep and will decrease the eventual resale value of the home. Paint is for hideous peach brick or the 1970s kind with black every few bricks. I'm strongly in the NO category, and unlikely to be alone.

I honestly can't tell what the color of their siding is from any of your pictures. (!) If they go with too cool a gray, both brick and siding will look the worse for it. Usually if you choose a tone close to the color of the mortar, you end up with a coherent and pleasant color scheme. The roof (also impossible to grok from these photos) might also support something in the sage family.

I would not paint the brick either.

Acm, I'm with you. I would never, never paint that brick. It's beautiful, it's distinctive, it has style.

thanks for the feedback. here's the color of the garage color and trim, and grout Color. I think I can convince her to try a different accent color. She wants something to lighten it up. There's a room addition in back that has not been painted yet.

If there is nothing wrong with the brick, I would be inclined to keep it.
There a lot of other ways to "lighten" up the house. Removal of the shutters for one.
The landscaping can play a large part in how a house "presents" itself. Try looking at open and "light" design ideas.

I think I have them convinced to try to find a lighter paint for the trim and see how things look without shutters. I'm thinking a much lighter paint with green undertones? She's listening to everyone's advice, yay! It really helps!

The house looks great. We say no to painting the brick as well, but the solar shades need to go, as well as the shutters, and the landscaping needs a lot of work. It would be nice to see updates there first.

Do not paint the brick. Do not paint the quoins or brick around the windows. Remove the shutters. The house is not meant to have shutters.

Professional landscape is a good idea.

Acm, you must never have been to Texas. Almost all the brick homes are painted and they are beautiful. Painting the brick will not lower the resale value.
