It actually doesn't look bad as is. Here are some easy and affordable ideas for improving curb appeal (besides removing the awning):

• Remove the vines (they read as cluttered)
• Add some colorful throw pillows to your rockers
• Plant flowering plants on either side of the stairs for some color
• Continue the brick edgers down the path
• Paint the screen door frame white
• Replace welcome mat with something with a bit more color
• General fall tidying (raking leaves, etc)

Cute house! When you remove the awning, can you take down the metal uprights, too? Yes to painting the screen door white. Mostly I'd focus on the landscape. The red looks great against against the gray and white. You might expand the garden area a bit--all neatly edged with the same pavers--and fill it with red flowers.

I love your house and all of your pretty red roses. I agree that a simple white railing around the stoop and some colorful pillows on the rockers is all you need. You could add a small table next to each rocker to set an iced tea or glass of wine. These pillows would be pretty on your rockers.
