Rocky, this is the main sink I bought (Julien) and a matching 18" x 18" for the island. I wasn't sold on the ledge idea. I have a wide (front to back) sink right now and didn't like the idea of losing more width with the ledges. I did get several accessories to use on the top edge. I also specified a rear right drain, since my prep space is on the right.

10 1/2 years after it was installed, we still love our Julien sink (with 0-radius corners). It still has the Julien strainer and drain that came with it, and they still look fine as far as we can tell. No discoloration.

Thank you chispa and cat mom! The stages has the ledge also, but it is at the top, and I dont mind it at all, although it is one more surface to clean. I dunno..you do have me rethinking the whole workstation idea though.

We just got Julien Smartstation.

We researched, visited, test drove ( Julien & Franke a good bit) and looked at getting a custom sink made for 2 years, Kohler (prolific & stages), Blanco, Galley, Franke, Rachiele, Nantucket, Ruvati, Create Good Sinks, to name a few of the main ones we kept reviewing.

We have a small kitchen (condo), we are limited in every way. We need "multifunction" everywhere. Having a multi functioning sink felt very important.

As I've been playing with it on the table, we're loving it. My son is a welder, he approved of the craftsmanship. My boyfriend is a highly skilled contractor, he approved too. Along with a number of plumbers and other trades recommending Julien as well.

In our opinion: The ledges are so sleek in Julien and Franke for example, you don't feel like you are loosing any space and what little space you sacrifice for the ledge you totally gain back and more with the extra functions. We ruled out the Kohler sinks because of how they're processed.

We can't wait to put this sink into use.

I went with a Rachiele 42" Signature sink a year ago. Other than just wiping the ledges occasionally, there's been nothing to clean. Highly recommended.

What did you end up getting and how do you like it?

I haven’t ordered it yet. I was going to order the Julien in a custom size from Quality Bath, but the project is taking so long that I decided to hold off until I was absolutely sure.

Night owl why do you love the sink? I'm looking a a Galley and the Julien. I don.t want to spend time washing and drying a sink.

You certainly don't have to wash and dry the Rachiele copper sink I have. That's only for low quality sinks that have some kind of coating on them. Doing all the prep work in the sink is great because the counter stays clean. The ledges make this easy to do.

I bought an expensive Julien sink for my recent kitchen remodel and it has been a nightmare experience! The first sink delivered had seam defects an involved a long wait for an exchange, (sent from Canada). Shortly after installation and after only light use, the stainless finish became permanently marred by their "protective" grid feet. I found their warranty to be useless (and blatantly misleading) and their customer service to be HORRIBLE. Julien were largely non-responsive and, after MANY emails, offensively sent me some free useless Presentation Board as compensation for the problem (despite my refusal of it). Replacement grid feet they sent did not fit the grid at all. Unfortunately, because the sink is undermount, if would be very expensive to remove. We did not feel Julien honored their stated warranty. As we use the sink, I'm not finding Julien 's stainless finish to hold up as much as the Franke or Elkay sinks I've used in past. Despite using their recommended cleaning products and instructions, the finish is dull. I will never again purchase a Julien sink!

Wow, d s, sorry to hear about your bad experience. I’m in the midst of deciding between a Julien ledge sink and one from Create Good Sinks. I was originally looking at the Galley but cost is so much higher I find it hard to justify. I was leaning toward Julien but now I’m confused again!

We too considered the Galley but in fact liked the lustre of the Julien sink in the showroom better. Maybe you'll have better luck than we did. All the best with your project, SK!

@ d s . first time I have seen damage to a sink finish caused by grid feet. Are the feet hard plastic? Would love a close up . thanks ( by the way..I'm fairly certain you can buff those out. )

Our Julien sink has the same marks from the grid feet. I don’t consider them to be damage. Rather, normal wear and tear from rubber feet rubbing the sink floor (within a narrow range of space) during normal sink use. Unless you routinely take the grid out of the sink, and leave it out for any period of time, nobody is going to see the marks.

@cat_mom For me, it's the first time I've ever seen sink grid feet permanently mark a stainless sink! "Protective feet", they're not. Other brands I've seen with grids didn't have that issue, even after years of use. I suspect had Julien made the grid feet out of a soft rubber or silicone, marking of the stainless sink would not have happened. I've tried their products to clean the marks off, but to no avail. I'm hoping Julien will mail me some new grid feet that are made of a different material so that the problem does not get even worse.

@RCKsinks Inc. I too have never seen damage to a sink from grid feet! The Smartstation grid feet do appear to be some sort of hard plastic material, or something. Certainly not a soft material. If they were made of rubber or silicone, I suspect this would not have happened. I will take a closeup for you tomorrow. Maybe you might have some suggestions for me? Ideally I'd love to find some silicone grid feet to replace the Julien ones that came with it, in hopes of preventing even more damage. The Julien cleaner and polish I have tried do nothing to remove the marks. Sad, after a whole kitchen remodel.

After reviewing many of the brands mentioned here, include the Galley sink, I've decided on the Julien Smart Station zero radius 36 x 18 x 10 (interior). I won't have any prep sink, so hope that the 36 with the inner ledge will work nicely for kitchen prep. And then it's big enough to hide the dirty dishes from view during dinner. They recommend a 42-inch cabinet below, but since I'm doing custom cabinets I am thinking 38-39 would be fine. Anyone use a cabinet less than 42 inches or know of a special reason for the 42 inch cabinet? My countertop depth is 31-32 inches, and I'll be using soapstone. Is there an ideal distance from the edge of the countertop to front of the sink? I was thinking 4 inches instead of 3? I think the sinks are beautiful, and hopefully I will like it. Thanks for the heads up on the black marking for the grid feet. Maybe I'll try to put little socks on them. Additional experiences with Julien sinks are most appreciated. I still have time.

Did anyone find the zero radius Julien sink difficult to clean. I really prefer that look, but have heard that the corners can be difficult to keep clean. Thanks again.

cabinathome -- If they are like Rachiele's, which is what I have, they're not actually zero, about 3mm radius. I've never had any issue cleaning them--not that they need much cleaning in the first place. Just wipe with a dishcloth or paper towel. A brush also works.

If it matters, Create good sinks are made in China - Julien is made in Canada

Fortunately, this isn't necessarily true. The countertops are never pulled; you tap the cabinet front off to pull the sink. I've done this hundreds of times.

I bought a smartstation with the sponge drawer and I absolutely love my sink! Yes, the edges are hard to clean but they don’t need cleaning often. I think the sink is very functional and wish I went even bigger. It’s heavy duty and awesome.

Great to know. I plan to get the 36 inch x 10 inch deep and thinking to add the flat apron front for easier access and to avoid a chipped countertop edge. Anyone notice chipped edges at the access area on undermount sink?

I got the 36” and wish I got the next size up just cuz we use the accessories quite a bit. I researched the other brands and for the price this was the best bang for the buck. We didn’t get an apron front because it looks nice as an undermount and have not had any chipping issues. Got the sink installed in October 2019.

Yes, the undermount sink looks very nice. It's my first choice but thinking about maintenance. Do you have a stone countertop? I'm getting soapstone, which will get banged up but can be sanded out.

I didn't realize the sponge drawer is an option with the Smartstation. Awesome!

DO NOT BUY A JULIEN SINK. i purchased thw ceramic smart station which comes with a wood cutting board the wood cutting board hs CRACKED the sink. Julien will not replace the sink and wants to charge us to replace it. it will be minimum $700 for the sink plus cost to eemove and put in the new sink WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. weve had this sink for about 8 months

Yikes re: ceramic sink— that’s terrible service!!! Ugh what an expense and pain.
@cabinathome So far the stainless has been great. I have quartzite countertops and it doesn’t look like there’s any damage where the board and colander rest.

Oh dear, that does sound dreadful. I am planning to get the Julien stainless steel Smart Station sink, 36 inch. I have talked with their customer service several times as I was considering an apron sink with the custom sponge niche, but decided these features weren't worth the sizeable extra cost. I will be purchasing the Smart Station through Quality Bath with all the extras. It's going in a soapstone countertop. Hope I have no regrets!

Michelle Sperry, thank you for your feedback. We were looking into getting a custom size sink from Julien, but neither our dealer nor ourselves could get any meaningful response from them. A shame because I love the look of their sinks.

@cabinathome are you happy with your purchase? any regrets? do the legs of the sink grate mar the stainless bottom? is the look of the stainless still nice?

@cabinathome Concerning my Julien Smart Station sink, I’ve now had the sink for almost 4 years. The ”protective” feet on the grid have marked the stainless sink and I‘ve had no success removing the marks. Julien did not offer a solution or cover this under their warranty, which seemed outrageous to me. Since my original post, the wood sides on the dish drainer accessory have begun to rot, so I will need to order another of those. This should not have happened on an expensive sink that is not heavily used (2 people). As for the stainless finish, it seems dullish to me despite following all of Julien’s cleaning instructions and using their recommended cleaning products. The stainless on this sink was supposed to be the best quality—how is it that plastic grid feet have permanently marred the surface of the sink and the finish is rather dull after only a few years?? I have no clue. I was not happy with Julien’s customer service and lack of resolution for the marred stainless, so I won’t be purchasing a Julien sink again. As for the design of the Smart Station sink, I do like it.

Sorry, I have not yet installed the Julien sink, so no feedback on that. But I have emailed Julien several times about their specs and received timely responses. Julien Smart Station now has a deeper "reveal" version. The deeper lip/reveal at the top allows the accessories to sit flush with the countertop. That being said, I ordered the version without the extra reveal (5508) and without the grid. I think lifting and cleaning a large heavy grid will be cumbersome. I have had a 30 inch stainless steel sink and a stainless steel countertop in my kitchen and no sink grid for 15 years. Overtime, it all gets scratched.

We’ve had our 48” sink from Create Good Sinks installed for under a year and quite happy with it. Don’t use the workstation function as much as I thought we would, but that feature is still used at least daily so that’s something I suppose. We have the two bowl apron sink, looks good and the grids work well for us. Very responsive company, shipped quickly to Canada.

@SK any issues with the SS scratching easily or SS finish? Is the sink sloped enough that the water and food go down without much effort? the corners? Do you have one or 2 faucets with a 48" sink? any pros or cons of the CGS would be appreciated

Does anyone have examples experience with the Foster Milano sink?

@Jerry Jorgenson How are you liking your copper sink, 5 years in now? I'm seriously considering one because it seems like it will patina better than SS. Would love to hear your thoughts!

P. T. -- The Rachiele sink is really just like new. The patina changes all the time but the overall appearnace stays the same. That's just how copper is. Highly recommended. Of the new appliances that went in with the kitchen remodel, the sink ranks #1 followed by the Ankarsrum, KoMo, and the Tabco baking table (all tied for #2). Induction cooktop is #3, Bluestar Wall Oven #4, and Vent-a-Hood #5.
