Thank you, but I am not crazy about roman blinds, (neighbours can look right in ) was thinking beautiful curtains tied back on either side... With maybe an organza/voile??? And how long should they be? And I thought a bold design would be nice?

okay, I would do sheers, all the way to the floor. You can tie them back during the day and still have privacy because no one can see in anyway. Windows are dark from the outside during daylight hours. They will give you privacy during the day. At night, there may be somewhat less privacy if the light is on in the hall.

You can use grommet top drapes and you will have the versatility of opening and closing. and an extra long wand. Or you would need them on traverse rod

I think they should be to the floor in length as it is more dramatic. There is no rule that they have to be to the floor.

The only other option is a remote control window treatment to open and close if they stop at the window sill.

I would go with floor-to-ceiling drapes in either a solid that blends with the wall color or a large print in contrast colors. The drapes should go on at least a 2" pole with endcaps since you don't have a lot of room for finials. There are stationary treatments as well. You will not have the versatility of opening and closing.

Susan's idea is better for this window, but I think you'd have to be the Jolly Green Giant to be able to reach it to open and close it. Same with curtains-even with a wand. How high up is the window? If you do panels, I'd do side panels with permant sheers covering the window--full length. Unless you want to spring for motorization, and personally, a stair window is not where I'd be springing for motorization! :)
