the stools seem short and would tie in far better were they black. that's probably the main thing I'd change.
The table strikes me as slightly unusual, the combination of top & the wood base, but I'd probably live with it and come to like it somewhat. I quite like the cabinets and sconces, I'd probably not change the art, possibly would get a black drum for the light above the table

I would definitely get rid of the sconces. Their placement is odd and they don’t seem to serve a purpose. Otherwise a very neat and different room, love that it is not cookie-cutter. I really love the windows and do agree a more substantial chandelier over the oval table. Best of luck

Chairs might work better than stools, and I would have to remove all the glass accents you have on the counter and add wood items, live plants, and maybe a basket or two to get some texture.

The black sconces make me think of playing The Sims for some reason. lol.

The fridge feels so far away from the stove.

Lori, you are right, it's a long walk, I have to grab everything I need from the fridge and bring them to the right side of the sink close to the stove when making dinner, lol. It doesn't bother me because I love the openness of the kitchen, and I normally cook listening to music and a glass of wine. But I am changing the fridge, I just to don't yet if I do a built in subzero or a freestanding Viking. Suggestions?

I'd prefer having a nice view out those windows.

This one of the most unique and striking kitchens I have ever seen! I love it's personality.
Although, I feel like it lacks warmth. I would draw from the beautiful granite backsplash a gold or brass for the lighting. The plain black doesn't make the granite "sing" like I think it could. (And I love black fixtures in my home??). Some comfy bar stools and I would revel in it's individualism!

Raline, could the freestanding Viking fit in that same spot?? seems a bit small. where would you move it?

I'd love to see a stainless fridge with a cabinet around it. The fridge looks cheap and naked in an otherwise great space.

I tried some different fixtures and cow hide bar stools. I think the cowhide is too much and distracts from island. But good to see option.

I vacillate between rustic and contemporary in this kitchen. The island takes things rustic but the hood goes more modern. I think selecting the light over the island will be the trick to determining the direction and things will fall into place after that. I might consider a couple refrigerator drawers over nearer the sink. Cabinet space is at a premium however. Still outstanding space.

With respect, the cowhide that Irene looks more distressed, more subtle than the cowhide that Flo posted.

The cowhide is showing too much white, that is the problem, with the ones I showed above there is less fabric keeping away the white which looks better I think or you could go black cowhide

I think I’d swap out the range hood. The granite backsplash behind the stove is so much bigger it overwhelms everything else around it. I think I’d opt for something as wide as the granite and then you can fit a larger stove under there then THAT would be your focal point!

You definitely need a built-in fridge of some sort. If you don’t want stainless then I’d go white.

Cool space! How about adding a color like a bright granny apple green?

Beautiful room . Just needs paint color and a valance .
Would also encase the refrigerator with side panels and cabinet that is equally as deep as the entire refrigerator.
Sconces are a bit small . Add long carpet runner in front of sink.
Would also end the granite at the same width as the hood fan . Not sure why it goes out so far on either side . Never ever seen that before .
And taller bar stools . Love the gorgeous armoire cabinet . And I agree, needs bigger light over island .

The chandelier disappears. It is beautiful but hard to see.

Hello. Absolutely nothing! I would begin to change nothing here. Everything looks very good.

Great kitchen. Change out the nautical wall lamps. The art doesn't seem to go with room.
A Serge Mouille 3 or 6 arm ceiling light might look great.
These Cherner counter stools are cool. Although the ones you have work fine too.

The first thing I saw which made me wonder "what were they thinking???," was the big square of granite backsplash behind the cook top. It just doesn't flow with the rest of the kitchen. I am also not a fan of the table. I would replace that with a rustic wood table.

I too having been thinking about the granite slabs behind range. I wonder if you could get a bit more of that and create a rough irregular edge coming from high on each side of hood to integrate the granite more naturally. I find the straight lines jarring. Maybe fine flat pebble tiles with those colors to create wavy edge look. Let me find some photos for you. Bbl

This is example of what I am suggesting for your backsplash granite. I wonder if a good fabricator could come over and see if you could do on site chiseled edge? Alternatively, we could design a pebble edge. Bbl.

Here is concept of applying earth tone pebble (flat) stones to create irregular edge to the slabs! I also replaced art work to suit space better. And I put a sconce with irregular shaped black shade and a more rustic chandelier to go better with island wood. Enjoy!

Beautiful area. The only thing that caught my attention was the chairs and the bottom of the table. We like to linger at the table after dinner and the stools wouldn't be comfortable for that. Also with that piece at the bottom of the table I might find it difficult for my feet. Nice big kitchen.

Barely anything needs changed! It is beautiful, especially the stone you have selected and the island! One minor thing is your current chandelier is a tad too ornate for the style of the rest of the space. I would look at some of the below options. Again, your space looks great!

- Perimeter Sconces

- Light Fixture over table

- Granite behind cooktop

I'm getting excited to see what happens with this room. It was already a good space but Houzzers are so good at recognising the potential to transform into exceptional.

I will post a pic with the final decision soon. You all have been very helpful, thank you so much, and please feel welcome to add more comments.

Raline, it's gonna be fun to see how you make this space your own! I hope you'll choose lights like Beth suggested. If I had that much natural light in my kitchen, I wouldn't notice any "flaws."

I think it looks weird and forced to have art hanging over the counter. I always try to pretend things are "real," say that was a Monet. Would you hang it over the counter? Well, don't do it for your homegoods jobbies either. Same goes for folks who say they can't tell the difference between real plants and fake, then jam fake plants deep in to a corner, against walls where you never normally would. I think the room could use the warmth of rich wood, picking up colors from the slab (it isn't perfect but it in and of itself is a work of art and was treated as such-sometimes that means defying conventional aesthetics)-I would replace art area with rich wood shelving and carefully chosen items for display.

Need need need chair backs. Ouch. Build around refrigerator matching cabs or get one that looks like an armoire in the style of the hutch.

When you replace the wharf lights, move the rightmost one to be at the same height as the others.

WOW to your beautiful home. Congrats. These are the nit picks of design-crazed Houzzers. You could do nothing and it would still be the bomb :)

I just love those skylights. I'd have orchids and violets and herbs all over that kitchen w/all that lighting.

I don't care for the granite behind the stove. It's too large and too much pattern. I would replace it with a sheet of stainless steel that is the width of the hood. I like the oval island/table top, but I don't care for the rectangular wooden base with it. I would try to modify that. And a new light fixture as others noted. It is a pretty kitchen, though.

Or maybe square off the granite top and leave it with the base? The colors work nicely together.
