I would agree. I find it so much easier to keep them over in ground, glads being mostly bullet proof, and dahlias being a maybe. If I dig, the dahlias inevitably dried out, or rotted (probably bad technique on my part). Glad were just a pain in the rear to dig and dry and clean.

That being said, being the low maintenance type of guy that I am, I only grow hardy plants (including species glads) now. and prefer those that don't need frequent division either (lol).

Haha that’s what I’m thinking. I really don’t feel like digging these up every fall. They are ina somewhat protected area. Big 4’ fall rock behind them and 4” driveway curb in front, I’m guessing those would help block wind? Plus we pile our snow on that garden when we snow-blow the driveway and snow is supposed to be an excellent insulator (this is just me trying to convince myself it’ll be fine hahah)

I got lazy two years ago and left Dahlias, Cannas and Glads in the ground and they were fine. That said, they are in a more protected bed. I have added Dahlias in a more open area this year and will keep my fingers crossed.

I hope yours make it Deborah! I’ve also decided just to leave them in the ground and see what happens. I might dig next year just to rearrange them (the dinner plates are in front of the skalelr ones so I want to put the smaller ones in front). But that’s not worth the effort at the moment lol

Alright I caved in, panicked, and pulled everything out of the ground a few weeks ago and have stored them nicely.

unfortunately because I’m a bit of a clutz and I was digging past dusk (I refuse to let a project remain unfinished), I ended up massacring several tubers with my shovel, and lost them in the dirt due to not having any light. I’m so mad at myself! I should’ve 1. Done this midday 2. Bought a pitchfork

in hoping that maybe the tubers I accidentally cut into or lost might resprout in the spring/summer and join their freshly-dug siblings
