Mandarin Tree - Curled leaves with brown/dead tips

I am new to citrus and not much of a green thumb to begin with. I planted a mandarin in my yard several weeks ago and it is really angry with me now.

I am in southern California, inland, it gets quite hot here and dry pretty much year round.

Notice the dirt of our area, i learned after that I should have mixed some citrus planting mix in with the soil around the plant, I did not do that unfortunately.

I also may have over fertilized it by pouring some fertilizer grain around it a couple of weeks after planting.

Any help of how I can turn this around is much appreciated!

Would it be a bad idea for me to dig it up and pot it?
