Its probably pretty stressed. I would make sure it’s getting enough water since you live in a warm area and give it some time. I wouldn’t put any more fertilizers on it until it’s a bit more settled in.

Also need to get rid of the stake. Are you watering with water that goes through softener? The brown tips are from too much salt.

I am not, and the water her seems to be very hard as it always leaves white residue on anything it dries on.

Would the salt be coming from our water or this desert like dirt?

That tree needs some water. Looks like you have fertilizer tip burn to me, not that big of a deal. A newly planted tree should be getting watered almost daily, especially with the wind, high temps and ultra low humidity we’ve been seeing the last couple weeks. Once the weather cools down and you see your tree start to recover from the transplant shock you can back off on the watering and do it less frequently but for longer periods of time. Not sure if you have Drip Irrigation but that will help you a lot, then you can just set it to water on a regular schedule. As Susanne stated above, I would remove the stake that it’s tied to so the tree can sway in the wind and begin to build a thicker, stronger trunk. By the way, what kind of mandarin did you plant and do you know what rootstock it is on?

Just as an aside, I have very hard water and I live in the Desert and the soil you have your tree planted in looks to be sandy Loam and similar to mine, which is ideal for growing citrus, do not dig up and amend anything.

That makes sense and might explain all of the citrus and vineyards there are in this area.

Yup... I am in the much more water camp. Mandarin leaves cup and curl extremely quickly. They may never unfurl... it's not a problem
