Sometimes during a wet summer, the new growth forms a tight cup that holds water. If it stays wet too long, some kind of infection can start. Do you think this might have happened sometime last summer? I hate it that this happened!

I agree with Barb. Have to keep the crown dry. Normal rain runs down the leaves and settles at the crown and rots it out. Kill the whole plant in time. Hopefully new pups will emerge and the plant can be saved. I lost a few to this myself. Have to keep them much dryer. Keep the crown cleared of dirt and other debris. I use a straw to blow the dirt out of the crown area. Too late for this one. Water below in saucer or soak the plant once every few months, keeping the leaves dry.

Ok, thank you both. I have to be more careful with watering. Neither of these was outside so I must have not watered it correctly.

I am so glad someone else uses a straw to clean their Sans, it feels kind of strange every time I do ilol.

Vitorama, I am sorry about your plant. I know that Sans are considered an easy impossible to kill plant, but their care is so different from Tropicals, that I grow, I had an awful time learning to root pups. Good luck.

Laurie, Thanks, but I think those impossible to kill ones are the plain trifasciatas. Not that they are any lessor than any others but they are the strongest and that's why they are cheap and plentiful. I have to admit that I have killed them as well. Killed them with love and attention.
