Caudex tree seedling

Just for fun: My sole surviving seedling of a Cabbage tree, Cussonia Paniculata. These can be quite tricky to grow from seed as it isn't viable for long and the best seed to use comes from bird droppings, after they have eaten the fruits, lol. If you don't grow them from seed, they don't develop a caudex and will not root properly.

It's also extremely slow germinating. Getting fresh seed involved balancing on a very wobbly stack of bricks next to my cousin's wall to pick it from his neighbour's tree. The seeds take about 6 weeks to germinate and the seedling is now about 3 1/2 months old. Like many indigenous trees, it is very slow growing although they can get very large in time. The caudex is already forming and I will be able to transplant into the garden in a few months

This is what they look like as adult trees, many years later
