runners for a barn wedding, need to know how much fabric to order

I need 4 runners and 1 square for a wedding rehearsal dinner in a barn. The runners will be hemmed not surged, and will be 14" X 120". The round table is 40 wide and I think. 54 square will work. Very expensive fabric and don't want to mess up for the seamstress.

First, your SEAMSTRESS should tell you what you need! Is this it?

You are only going to get three runners from a single width of fabric. You need not less than 9 yards for the runners. Then you need another two for the "square" and unless it is lined with a MINIMAL seam, it isn't going to be 54 square. Better to skirt the ENTIRE table and get three yards for that

All this means........ you really need 12 yards for your plan. And To get those three runners from one width? You need to LINE !!! them, not "hem" Otherwise, add another 4 yards. Meaning 16 yards. Better to go with inexpensive lining for runners at a few bucks a yard. Or have cheesy .

IMO to go with a very expensive fabric for one day is just plain silly . Why not go to a site like tablecloyhs .com and order for a lot less.

Thank you, but they are so ugly. I found a nice one on amazon, but only 2, Needed 4. Lots of time for wedding, but want to get things done.

how wide is the fabric?

you will want to add two inches for each hem, so at least 4 inches. That makes your dimensions 18" x 124" and 58" x 58". The easiest would be 60" fabric, but that is uncommon so you need to check. If it is 56" wide, she could do a narrow hem or serge and then fold the hem, rather than a double fold. How is is hemmed is also determined by the weight of the fabric. Really thin or slippery fabric requires different techniques than heavyweight. Very heavy fabric can not be double folded...Consult your seamstress for the best advise.

Sorry but why do you need upholstery fabric for table runners at 48.00 / yd. I love the idea of blk and wht check but you could get everything you need for the price of 2 yds since I am pretty sure they will not be used again. this is from tableclothsfactory.com

My point was she wants what she want's! And the runners linked on the post above were only 108 inches, not 120. And the comment was meant for a pro worrying about the price, : ) No malice intended whatsoever......as there ARE wedding gowns at that price and more, relegating table dressing to relatively far less indeed. May the barn be gorgeous
