Concrete floors with a formal style makes no sense to me. As for the kitchen the most formal to me would be # 3 , # 1 is boring, # 2 with all those small drawers would be useless

#6 White, but with a wood top island.

I would not want my floors to blend into my cabs....I would prefer some definition yet the two different finishes to compliment each other. That is why I struggle liking the wood tones...there is not enough difference so paint would be my choice but in a warm white not white-white. Are there any other color possibilities for the floor?

The Best #3 #4 #6 ...Wood 01 or 02 ...looks little old fashion.

I would do color cabinets not natural wood with a concrete floor. I like all of the color choices, but #6 White is the way I'd go. The others are nice but probably trendier than I'd want to be at a place I probably wouldn't want to update soon. You could do a color just on the island if you are doing an island.

Yes, the concrete can be any color. I don't want to pick a kitchen based on concrete floors, because I'm 80%sure I'll end up covering them. my favorites are 3 and 4, but my head keeps insisting natural wood has the ultimate warmth and beauty. My best friend, a designer in Atlanta, says we could do concrete, copper colored, grey kitchen, slate backsplash.She's flying here this weekend, think she's afraid I'm losing it! I have lived in two white kitchens and love them. So, you see what a mess I am!!!! If I clearly liked one, I'd know it. I also know once it's in, I'll know what I should have done! Patricia, why doesn't it make sense to use concrete for any style? Yes, they are traditionally industrial, but from what I've seen, they could be treated like any floor. Please correct me, but, if you love the color and variation of the floor, with tons of rugs reflecting your "style" why not try it? if you go a marble look for instance, why are you committing a design error? of course, I do not have much faith in liking this, but not from a design decision. I am afraid of falling(MS) and simply a finished look I don't like!

You're definitely going to get a lot of mixed opinions here since this is purely a matter of preference. #1&2 is a nice wood if you want the natural wood look. Since it's on a lake, I'm not sure if you are going for the cabin feel, but the wood would go best with that. #6 white is classic. White is very in right now, but it's not a trend and I highly doubt it will ever go out of style. #4 is classic with a more modern twist. It's unique without being crazy and I love it. The bluer undertones would go great with a view of the lake. If you pair it with light countertops and nice lighting, I wouldn't be worried about it being dark. I think you would love this option, since it's different from the white you are used to but still feels very classic. #3 gray is a trend that I expect will be going out and has the least warmth of the options so I would avoid it. #5 I don't personally like it, but you will have to decide. I don't like the pink undertones of the wood and it just generally looks unfinished compared to the other options.

I just searched for examples of concrete floors...wow...they have come a long way! My favs were examples of wood plank stamped concrete..awesome!

I would not pick such a dark shade for the floor. I also suggest you take a look at polyurea floor treatments. This product is nigh on indestructible and gives the appearance of great depth.

Not a fan of No. 3. The grey will take away from the richness of the floor and the cabinet design looks cheap. 2, 4 and 6 are the nicest looking design and wood colors, but with the woods you will want to make sure to bring in some light elements to keep from getting too dark. I pulled up a few options of looks that I personally feel did and DID NOT work. You might want to get the floor completely done before trying to choose a complimentary stain. I think the key to making the wood work is matching the tone but getting enough of a shade variance. What about a pretty blond wood? The simple shaker look on most of your choices will be versatile enough for any kind of decor.

This last one does not appear to go with the cabinets at all - too yellow toned.

I think you realize by now, given the various "digit preferences" above, that the quality kitchen is one with a layout that suits you and the way you cook, and the one you will love for the length of your stay in this home.

Since you go for a more formal look, I'm a bit puzzled you have kitchens showing different styles, like number 3 is a country kitchen to me.

In my opinion it is important that the kitchen matches with the rest of the house in style. So perhaps you can show us pictures of the living room and especially the dining room, since it flows into the kitchen.

If those rooms are not ready yet, than pictures of the furniture could help quite a bit too.

I'm sorry to read you have such a nasty disease. I know someone with MS who is in a wheelchair. In the concept of the kitchen there was plenty of room left for it and she can also wheel it under the counter top, where some cabinets were left out. There is lots of information on how others made their kitchens suit them in this predicament.

I think your friend from Atlanta has some great ideas. Gray goes real well with a warmer wood tone. I know, for I have it myself. Before I had white too, but well, I wanted something different.

Personally I like your number 4 with the dark grey the most, although those handles wouldn't be my first choice, since I do not like it so modern. Neither the sink, faucet and handles. I would combine it with the porcelain sink of number 1 for a bit more classic feel. I'd add a traditional black faucet. Copper toned handles would be quite dramatic here (which I find interesting). But like I said before, it must fit nicely with your dining room!

I like number 2 overall the best and if I had to pick one to go with the possible sample flooring shown above then this would be it. It will blend with everything else.

Personally I like concrete floors. They are interesting. #3 & #5 have an updated vibe & clean lines which would seem to go well with concrete. I favor lighter wood tones with concrete. I would only use white if the style is less formal.

I like them all. But I think in 5 years #3 will become very dated

Thanks for all the input! I expected many different opinions, just wanted to see if there was a prevailing favorite. The layout is immaterial with regard to the photos, I am simply making a choice of materials for the kitchen cabinets. I "think" we have come to some resolution, Since my dining room is dark cherry, I "think" I'll do the island in same stain, white quartzite counters, copper prep sink, grey kitchen cabinets, orb faucets, pot filler. Leslie, i think you made great choices. It's not cookie cutter or boring. Good luck with your new home!

Personally, I like the wood in photo #1. However, I like this because it suits my own personal tastes and would look nice in my own house, which is an older home with a lot of original, unpainted wood work and an antique feel. I don't know what the rest of your house looks like. You should choose cabinet finishes that work with the style and tone of the rest of the house. If you have a lot of glass and white trim, then something more contemporary would probably be a better fit for your home.

What do you like? Wood, light, or dark stain? Wood cabinets look warm, traditional, beautiful, and they present the safest choice to make. If you want something different from your floor, I would go with #4. You said that the room is full of windows so I think that you can pull off dark cabinets look.

yes, you're right. ten foot ceilings, lots of windows in dining room and great room. Kitchen in-between. The dark should work in-between the light, sliding doors to outside there, but kitchen is on an internal wall. I like the black or dark grey the best. Having said that, I believe wood reflects a more timeless, go to look. that's why I'm torn. I don't care about safe, this will be my last house...but it has to ooze quality!

If you're willing to take a risk and want to follow your heart, then do it! I always loved kitchens with combined finishes. If done right, you should combine some white, gray and natural wood into your kitchen. I have a tentative plan to use two different counter top finishes and natural wood for most of my cabinets but then paint the island. You could do something like that to bring together some of the things you love.

@leslie1228, nothing says more "quality" than wood. Dark says "expensive". :)

Erika, I will have a cherry island, matching dining room furniture, white speckled with copper within for counters, grey kitchen. You know, typing this seems to scream wood to me! sorry for the dilemma and redundancy! my design friend feels the grey works with flooring. she has plans to tie everything together. sure you all are sick of me, just a decision that is irreversible!

We're not sick of you! I totally get it. This is your house and remodels aren't cheap. You want to like the end result. Maybe you should sketch out a few of your ideas, or have an artistic friends sketch some of your ideas to see how they look in your space. I also think if your gut says wood, go with wood. Wood can always be painted later if you change your mind and I find that my own gut feelings are a great indicator of what I'm truly going to be happy with.

Add: I do think wood cabinets would look nice with the counters you describe. It would add contrast while tying in the copper flecks.
