Need help with this downstairs family room

Hello! Looking for advice on this family room, there is a 50 inch tv on the wall above the media unit. It seems so bare, should I put something on either side of the media unit? Also, it feels like it might need a larger rug, any thoughts on how the rug size works with this type of furniture arrangement?

I think I would only add something large for the wall by the bookcase. Your TV placement prevents much else; you might try the corner bookcase on the TV wall, but I'm not certain it would make an improvement. Were you to center the TV on the wall, a longer console would look a bit better. I'm tempted to suggest you remove part of the sectional, but imagine you need it, or would not have it to begin with? You have a good opportunity for colorful wall art, though!

We don't see the tv or "empty" space. Can you show more angles of the room? Oh..yes, the rug is too small.What is on the left, behind the chair?

The entertainment unit is too small for the size of the TV. You need a longer credenza there and the TV needs to be lower on the wall so people don't have to look up to watch. I think the wall where the bookcase is might be a better location for TV. The corner bookcase could go in the corner where the TV is now. Sectional could float with the back to the glass door and the chair could angle on the stairwell side of it. If you don't want to relocate TV, then get a credenza long enough to fill the entire wall, running under the window too. The pic below is a bit like what I have in mind, except the large piece of art would be your window and on the opposite side from the TV.

Yes, if tv stays on that wall, please center it and lower it. First, however, look for a different credenza, one that will pretty much fill the space between the window and the other corner.

But, think Deco is on to something. Looking at your space, it appears you come down the stairs and then have to wind your way thru the middle of your seating. If tv was on the large wall at the end of the stairs the seating could be arranged to allow for traffic to pass thru.
