You are 100% correct. There are few people left with the experience and knowledge to appreciate great works of art, and even fewer people with the skills to create great works of art. Most of what passes for art these days is indistinguishable from what you would get if you dropped off a crate of paint and clay at a kindergarten class. We also don't teach any real skills in school, so there is no intellectual foundation upon which to build an appreciation for real art.
