No it is granite in a leathered or flamed finish. This black granite has some white veining. Granites are called by many different names but try looking for "Virginia Mist" or 'Jet Mist" in a leathered or honed finish and it looks quite a lot like soapstone.

I had honed Virgina Mist put on my kitchen counters with a 15-year sealer. I have noticed staining despite the fact that I wipe away spills immediately and 'am very careful with the counters. The contractor who installed it is unresponsive. Is there a way to remove the stains (mostly water rings, etc.)?

Try placing a folded paper towel on the stain and pour hydro peroxide on it let it sit for 4-12 hours. It works on my Quartz.

Richa - Sorry to hear about that. It's hard to say without seeing it in person. My hunch is it has something to do with the sealer.

There's a poultice you can apply to lift stains in granite. There are products & homemade rubs you can try. Google stains on granite.

The leather finishes will show stains more readily.
