Quartz counter-tops do not match floor

last modified: 8 years ago

We just had Himalayan quartz countertops installed this morning. I like the choice in and of itself, but when paired with our new brick floor, the two seem to fight each other. Am I making too big of a deal? We also want to add a bar to the bottom of the "L" counter, and I'm hopeful that a gray wood or prefab counter might help to anchor the space. Thoughts?!

I understand and I agree with you. I think both the floor and counters are to busy. I do like both of your choices just not together. It is a huge investment. Once you put your stuff on your counters maybe you will be happier. Good luck

Too busy. One or the other has to go.

    Hi

There’s a lot of movement in both. See if once you decorate you can live with it. Otherwise I would recommend replacing one of them.

    Sorry. Beautiful kitchen though !!

    Best of luck !

OH OH. ..................................no. The only fix is to remove one or the other. Get some design help if and when you re select. You are in two different palettes. And you have two stars in your "show". . You only needed one.

Bite the bullet. Get a plain soft white counter top.? So sorry : ( i

Too many colours in the floor: herringbone is busy enough on its own.

    Like a white wash.

Not a professional, but try putting some rugs down & see if that helps until you have a budget to fix one or the other. Good luck.

Sorry Haley but what your feeling about the combo is accurate,

Brick is porous, can it be stained?
If you stained some of the lighter brick the gray that's in the counter might pull it together more. Know anyone really good with color? Other wise, runners that pull in that gray.

I agree with trying to white wash the brick.

Get out the breaker hammer and get rid of that much much too busy floor. It wouldn’t work even if you ripped out the counters. The room is too small for that much pattern and color and shape both. The floor has to go, no matter what.

Yes both are too busy. Like others have said I'm sure there are more inexpensive solutions than tearing out and replacing the whole thing. A whitewash would be my choice if it's possible.

What kind of look were you going for Haley? Do you have any inspiration pics?

Unfortunately the multi-colored herringbone brick looks pretty busy and dated. Hope it wasn't toooooo expensive!

I agree with no...sorry! The floor would be too busy for me even with plain countertops.

Has it occurred to any of the rip it out crowd ,maybe they cant afford to rip it out !

First question: what is your budget? Funds for a re-do or just a make-do?

Long term, I think the floor has to go. Short term, a plain runner seems the best option.

So the cheapest thing to do is "nothing". Put everything back on the counter and just "make do" with what has happened. You can add some very PLAIN areas rugs that work with the colours in the counter top (linen coloured without any pattern) that can cover some of the brick flooring. That will reduce the visual as much as possible.

The next cheapest thing (it isn't cheap...but it's as good as we can get) would be a different counter top. Your floors read kinda yellowy-travertine-ish. I would find something that runs more to that colour rang rather than the cool brown-gray.

If you love your counters, then you will need to look at the most expensive option = remove the flooring and try again.

Personally, I vote for "do nothing" and see if it grows on you. You can always fix it at a later date.

Wash those dark bricks in a light gray that matches the counter.
