No. Place artwork above your fireplace.

I have a friend creating a large custom piece of art for the sidewall. That is why I wanted to do a simple mirror over the fireplace so it would not compete with the art. I will probably then put a narrow buffet under the art on the Sidewall

I agree with Window Treats suggestion above.

The fireplace is the focal point, as it's directly in front of you as you enter the room. It makes MUCH more sense for your beautiful custom artwork to be in this location, rather than viewed from the side when entering, like an afterthought.

It also makes more sense for the mirror to be above the buffet, and across from the window, reflecting the natural light.

Swap your mirror and art locations, and you have a gorgeous dining room!

Also, think of what exactly the mirror would be reflecting. Right now, it's just reflecting the ceiling fan, which isn't great.

I know you mentioned adding a chandelier, but I still think artwork should hang here, rather than a mirror. Just seems a bit awkward.

This is a total open floor plan. The sidewall is the focal point when you enter the room from the living room and the front door. So it is a main focus of the room. The fireplace is the focus when you are looking from the actual kitchen are Also The art is two pieces that are 36 inches wide because that wall is pretty substantial. The art will be too big for the mantle Kind of in a pickle here

This room needs art, and that's a perfect spot for it.

Anxious to see the chandy you pick. Maybe use a mirror over the fp, but a much smaller one, or one of the sculptured mirror wall hangings.

Would the room work flipped? Side chairs by the fireplace and dining table under the current chandelier in front of window?

tphilly- we canot flip the room. The seating area by the window was the original spot for a breakfast table but we opted not to do a formal dining area. We are using that room as a sitting room/office. We chose, instead, to go with a long 9 foot table by the fire place. That 9 foot table would never fit under the other chandelier by the window.

No on the mirror...it is out of scale. Wait until your artwork and chandy are installed to address the area above the fireplace?

Great start in your space! Very clean and fresh! I think the frame of the mirror might be too simple and since its not hanging it might be throwing it off. I would find a mirror with some kind of texture or maybe one of those starburst mirror. (see example below) Or hang a sculpture. Should add a small buffet or console table on the opposite wall of your glass doors with art work above. Would add a rug under your dining set to help frame and ground your space and possibly bring in color if needed. And if possible, I would change out your ceiling fan to a chandelier. The ceiling fan kind of feels out of place and calls for something to help bring characteristic and ambiance lighting to the dining table and hang it at approximately 30" to 34" above the table. Here are a few options of chandeliers that I think are simple and transitional to fit your style of your home. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

I see what you’re saying, in regards to that side wall being visible from the living room, but I still see the fireplace as the focal point.

Imagine how great it would look to see (from the living room) that large-scale mirror on that wall, reflecting the beautiful natural light, then as you enter the room, BAM, there’s your focal artwork hung over that inviting fireplace, and a gorgeous chandelier to top it all off.

It really is a beautiful room, just needs a couple tweaks!
