How much does a basic labor hour average ? How much do you have to sup
Comments (26)As far as the tile and hardwood are concerned. That's not design sense. That's knowing your trade and knowing the project. Those aren't things that anyone should HAVE to oversee, although in this case, they should've been. Quite frankly, if it were me, I'd be stopping work until I could have a face to face with the general contractor (I'm assuming he's the one who hired the flooring guys and not you). Point out these things that you've mentioned, let him know you're not at all satisfied, and let him know no one gets paid until it's right. This is elementary stuff you're talking about. I'm a tile guy-- I don't do hardwood-- and even I can tell you that hardwood NEEDS to be staggered. The sanding NEEDS to be complete before staining. As for laying the tile in the wrong pattern, It's not a matter of doing something wrong. I've actually misunderstood before. What it IS a matter of is how the installer handles it. The time it happened to me, it never got questioned, as to whose fault it was. The tile came up, and what couldn't be saved, got replaced on MY dime, as did all the thinset, and the labor to rip out and replace. We all make mistakes. We're human, after all. The difference is how those mistakes are handled afterward. As for wrong grout, that's another stupid mistake that never should've happened. All in all, I'd say the crew working on your home is pretty careless and has a don't give a crap attitude. yeah, a meeting with the GC is in order. ASAP....See MoreHow much work should you do before listing your house?
Comments (30)We sold last year. Our RE agent was awesome. He gave us a list of things to do before listing, most everything was cosmetic. Nothing involved remodeling or repainting or upgrading anything. It was all about making it show well, for what it was, age and condition. He had us: 1) Prune back the trees that had overgrown in the front of the house 2) Do a major de-clutter. Cleared out 2/3 of the closets, packing things away for our move. 3) He went around and told us which pieces of furniture / furnishings to remove, to give the illusion of more space, styling the remaining (for example, repositioning our bed; removing all table leaves and having only 4 dining room chairs; removing a rug here and there to show off hardwood). 4) Had us clear our kitchen countertops completely. 5) Cleared out the kids' bedrooms (which were small) nearly completely, except for rug and bed. He did instruct us to leave a few kids personal items in each room, to remind the buyer our home was in a great school district. I.e., a couple of trophies. 6) Had us hire cleaners to come and clean it top to bottom right before the open house. 7) Came over with his camera (he's a great photographer) and spent a few more hours styling and tweaking so it looked just right in the photos. 8) Had us add something "organic" to every room, it was fall, so lots of bowls of apples. 9) Remove all personal items, except for the trophies in the kids rooms. 10) Turn on ALL lights, raise window shades up, push back shower curtains, close toilet lids, light a few candles before showing....See MoreHow would you spend $10k to improve this kitchen?

Comments (259)I cook almost daily. When you share your food and time in the kitchen it is a genuine show of love. Having a full pantry, and Freezer is the greatest feeling. One of my favorite one dish meals is: Pistachio encrusted sea bass, pan fried, over oven Asiago Risotto. Light green salad frisée, mini tomatoes and I light vinegorette on top. Delicious and easy. We have amazing restaurants in Napa Valley. When I worked full time we ate out a lot. Now really for special occasions, except lunch with girlfriends. Love love love left overs....See Morealex9179
