Great room refresh

We are replacing the original carpet in our house with an engineered hardwood in Gunstock that matches our trim. I have a few questions that I could use input on.

I am getting rid of the valances and am planning on putting up drapes. My problem is that the windows by the fireplace has the "break" between the upper window and lower at a different place than the top molding on the other windows/door. Where would I hang a rod? I was planning on using one panel on the outside of each window. I am assuming that the rod would not be extended out very far since it would be obvious that the upper window wasn't under the curtain. YKWIM? Also for the two windows on the corner, do I treat them as one window with a single panel on the side that has the wall space?

I plan on repainting a yes, you guessed it, griege color. Which ironically is what is was before we painted it SW Restrained Gold. Thoughts for colors/style for a rug? We are in the process of clearing out the room for the floor replacement which makes it look more bare than usual. A slipper chair in navy/white chevron and floor lamp are in the corner between the door and long windows.

I am open to rearranging, there is a cable outlet between the left fireplace window and the corner window. We just replaced the slider, it used to be a french door which really made furniture placement difficult if you ever planned on using the doors.

Give me ideas--I am open to most anything. We are trying to sell the piano, it is rarely used and neither DD really play or have interest in it. Ideas for that area? A bench is moved out already that may go there or I was thinking the sofa table since the sofa isn't behind it anymore!
