A local custom cabinets maker could create a nice quality piece for you.

That cabinet has been around for a long time from Ikea which usually means they have had good luck with it . What was it that you didn’t like ?

If real quality is desired, it will have to be paid for with real money. If Ikea is too janky, you can bet Wayfair and their ilk of cheepchinesecrapola will be too. 4x the price of Ikea would still be a bargain for something real.

Agree with Sophie. Quality made-in-America furniture is going to cost a fair amount of money. But if money is limited, another way to go would be to go to an unfinished furniture store and paint it yourself. Unfinished furniture stores use real wood vs. fiberboard/laminates and will probably last you a good long time. If you go this route, make sure you prime the piece first, then paint.

Agree with Sophie and Sabrina. If you're looking for something real, then you will need to pay real money too! However, I must say I have had a "Hemnes" chest for about 5 years now, and it came out to be of great quality. Maybe the one in the showroom had not been built properly and that's why the doors didn't align.

Quality will def cost. Doesn't hurt to take the pic to some cab shops and say "hey can you make this? How much?" Then talk about your budget and ask what they have any ideas. Always worth giving somebody a shot to give you a product and service you love!

My local cabinet maker is surprisingly reasonable. Custom need not equate with out of sight expensive. He does a catalyzed conversion varnish finish as well Top notch. He just doesn't have a "showroom" with a bunch of overhead. He gets his business from me and other designers as personal recommendations. We design the products, and he produces them. Still less than many factory built items. And locally made. Which counts for a lot in my book!
