Driveway solution

Hello,

Our driveway slopes inward toward our garage on heavy rains our garage floods, the drain is small. I'm afraid one of this days water will reach our basement. I am looking for a solution aside of making the drain bigger and having a back up sump pump (which will be useless when power is out) I've seen the idea of fast draining concrete (or whatever you call that) but because we live in the Midwest its not suggested. Anyone had a idea they one to share? Thanks!

Redoing the drain to accommodate the volume of water is the best and simplest solution. A linear drain across the face of the garage opening would be recommended. And a proper drain will collect and redirect the water to an appropriate outlet or storm water runoff collection system. Would not want to rely on a sump pump for this process.

Would install a linear drain across front of garage door with a sump pump to send it to street.

Also redo driveway pitched away from the house. Our driveway is pitched incorrectly and causes us a lot of problems. Someday when our ship comes in we will redo it.

I had the same issue. I installed a linear drain with a pipe that ran underground off to the side. It was a good solution.

A bettery-powered backup sump pump is what we have. It takes over if there is a power outage and also if the sump is not working for another reason.

It hasn't been mentioned, so I'll suggest it. If you haven't already, just try clearing the drain. It could be partially blocked and thus prevented from doing its job.
