Where is your KD in this? You cannot be doing this by yourself. Hire a local kitchen designer who can integrate your choices into the home as a whole.

I personally prefer a light kitchen, so I'd take cream over very dark -- it would also go well with your current tile. White is also worth considering, just given that the room has a lot of white trim.

There’s nothing wrong with the existing cabinets that painting out the school bus won’t cure.

The lighter option is more of nowadays. But when I see your kitchen as it is, I get flooded with all cozy feelings. And not only the yellow walls but also the type of furniture and the dark kitchen cabinets help create those feelings.

Both is good. It's really up to you to decide which feel the kitchen has to give. And I'm not saying creme white can't be cozy. Yet, it somehow feels different to me.

You know what I would also like in a kitchen like this? A darker, more terra red for the cabinets. At the first photo I do not like the fridge though, being too contemporary.

The colour of the cabinetry can change depending on the your preference and a number of other factors. For example, you have 2 good size windows in your kitchen. If you get a good amount of light through those windows throughout a regular day, then a either a dark or light colour will go great in the kitchen. However, your kitchen can be considered to be its own room, with only 1 open wall (into the dining space). So to make the space appear larger than it is and more inviting you might want to consider a warm white. A couple of our customer's favourites include Benjamin Moore's Cloud White & Decorator's White.

I don't think you need a designer, but that's just me. I've never used one (three kitchens that I've loved, and about to do my fourth). I research and plan like crazy, and I have a really clear idea of what I want and like. Anyway, sounds like there's already a lot to look at in your kitchen, so maybe it makes sense to go with something less interesting, and more neutral- so a cream or light color? Let the blue, and the glass take center stage?

I would go with lighter cabinets. They would brighten the space and the white beadboard might unify it. I don't think you need to worry about it in regards to the dining area. With a wooden table and black chairs, it's actually quite neutral.

It appears that a white in a warm tone would work, based on your floor tile. A cool white may clash.

Be aware that because your walls are such an intense color, they will influence how you see the painted cabinet color.

Cream kitchen cabinets! You have a lovely home but the bright yellow walls and window valances really take away from it. Choose a neutral paint color after you have made all other kitchen decisions. Keep the wood or choose a light color granite for the dark blue island; choose a dark granite for the cream cabinets.

It's funny everyone keeps talking about the yellow walls but they aren't nearly as obnoxious in person! The cabinets look really dark in the pics also...they are really more redish than they appear. Thank you all for your advice! I was thinking I should paint the walls first then go from there I don't know my head is spinning.

One step at a time is ok, as long as you're not replacing big things. Paint, recover, think, paint... :)
