If you aren't opposed to a pretty faux tree I'd purchase a fiddle fig and put it in a nice basket to occupy the space.

Ballard.com sells a very nice one with stellar reviews. I purchased it after killing a couple real Fiddle Figs. I wanted it a bit taller so I got a taller basket and filled it with brown packing paper I had then put paper atop and Spanish moss over it. Hence, it's considerably taller.

I'd use black hardware to coordinate with your TV screen, picture frames and fireplace surround. Nothing too large though.

As for the corner...it looks like you need some kind of light there since you have a lamp on that bookcase at present, so possibly a floor lamp would be useful. It might be good if it arced toward your seating too.

Hello. I like this black bookcase, but if you want to remove it, then I would advise you to place a big plant there, it would look quite not badly.

Houzz shop has many floor lamps, including arc ones that branch similarly to a tree, so you could feasibly do a "tree" with light. ;) I like the book case, too, though it seems it should be turned to the other wall (facing toward the sectional), and a shorter lamp on top maybe?

If you are in need of the light I'd do the arc with the base at the edge of the couch over the couch toward the coffee table on the right edge of the sofa just behind the sofa (looking at the picture) then in the corner a tree in a nice large oval pot or tall cylindrical basket.

I feel the bookcase is a bit heavy in the corner and the rest of the room is beautiful. You could pair other things on the floor around the tree if you like and have room that aren't tall such as other baskets in different sizes.

The lamp on the top of the bookcase is so very high as well.
