I think painting the front door a different colour is a great idea. It will give a more unique appearance to the exterior. Maybe a dark Charcoal?

I get so crabby when I see shutters that do not fit the windows. Please take them off, leave them off or replace them with the correct size. The windows are lovely on their own.


I love your home and would love to see a door like this to complement your windows.

I thought about black. My husband thinks since the trim is white that the door should be white. Blah!

I agree with tkh the door should pull you in. Definitely a color!! I'd be cautious of black I love the look but have never known anyone that did it in regards to : how does it look if you have a lot of road dust ? I like the idea of red, a blue the eggplant even a grey tone )stay medium shade)

I don't know why someone said to put the correct size shutters on my house or leave them off.

Shutters were originally used for protection so they were sized, when closed, to cover the windows. Each shutter should be 1/2 of the size of the window opening for an authentic look. That wouldn't be possible with a single shutter on a double window. That's what judyg meant. I do think the windows would look nice without the shutters.

tkh...you could show your husband the black door with the white trim photo. If you keep the black shutters, I think the black/white at the front door would look quite nice with you black shutters/white trim windows. I guess you can tell I'm a fan of the black front door. :) Notice the tiny shutters in this photo with a bay window. Hmmmm..not right here.

Deep teal

Teal, red or any mid tone color would bring out the entry. Whatever you choose add a bit of it around the tops of the columns for that painted lady or craftsman look,

I would say black, because I love a black door, but I think red or a bluish color would pull the eye in better. Love the stone!!

I agree with Terri, black would be great.

I'd pick a color out of your multicolored brick if your husband's wanting to be conservative.
If it were me, though, I'd paint that sucker brick red.

BM's "country redwood" comes to mind. It'll look like Cottage Red in that deep shade.

I love the stone work.. I think you should move the 2 tall evergreens that are near the columns. It will open up the entrance. They are too tall. You need something shorter.

A bluefish grey or dark red would really make it pop!

I saw my brick on a house built inside a home show. I liked the look of this house which also had black shutters and a black roof that when we built I used the same brick. I couldn't remember what color they had the front door so I asked them and just found out it was a deep forest green. I wouldn't have guessed that color!
