I've actually never had it happen where the offspring are shaded by the parent leaf and while I doubt I've done as many leaves as Rosie above, I've still did quite a number. I assume it's luck and that I angle the leaf such that this really can't happen (with the stem pointed away from the leaf).

Hey dbarron, your time will come lol. For reasons known only to the mother leaf sometimes babies WILL come up in the back no matter how perfectly that leaf is cut and placed. It doesn't happen often I will say, I think it IS a fluke but really doesn't make a difference to the babies. They may take a little longer to grow enough to be separated because they're shaded, but no biggie. It doesn't really affect anything that I can see. Rosie

Lol, never gonna happen. It's a fable...or a mistake. I tend to cut long stems on my leaves, I think that also helps with the positioning of young away from the leaf.

Thanks for the info Rosie! I think I’ve heard about cutting at a slant but it didn’t click. I just kept thinking, why does the big leaf look good but nothing is growing, and why am I wasting time watering it? Haha- surprise! A good one...

Yep. It happens. A few years ago, I had a really weird one. It's a noid that someone shared. :)
