It would be helpful to know what the long term plan is... When you do update, what will you change - for example: Paint cabinets or replace? Are the kitchen floors new or will those get replaced? The walls are a very modern crisp white. The other elements in the kitchen you don't love are all more traditional in browns. Do you like a more modern style? The rounded-edge walls also remind me of something Mediterranean. I think the arches on the cabinets clash a little with the very modern look of the pull you have selected. I actually like the clean look of the cabinets without pulls.

Love your blue rug - did you get that at Aldi? I have the same one in grey.

We live in Arizona and the prior owners chose all these brownish tones and all the walls have rounded corners. We are from Alaska and no one does that there! The floors do have touches of grey mixed in.

My husband would like to have white and/or grey kitchen cabinets and I want to have drawers and not so many doors, white or grey quartz counters, and we have wavered between wood floors and some sort of wood look tile (we have a pool and the door enters right into the great room/kitchen area so I have been hesitant about wood). I want whatever we do to the home to be timeless and not too trendy so I have been a bit worried about white and grey.

I painted all the walls in the house white. I have always felt that I was a transitional style (not that I really know exactly what that is!). My brother came to visit when we first bought the house and said to have my husband put on hardware so I think that has always been in the back of my mind too! The arches on the cabinets always make me think of them as being outdated and old fashioned so I did feel that almost all of the hardware I looked at was pretty modern. I thought maybe just the knob would be simple and still some sort of change.

I have not had hardware on them all this time so I guess keeping them plain is good too. The drawers would be easier to open with something though.

I got the rug at a plant nursery of all places! I loved the color and it washes great! It seems a bit too big for the space but trying to keep all that light colored grout cleaner!

I just re-did our kitchen with white painted cabinets and grey quartz and I know exactly what you mean about feeling like that too is too trendy - which is why I opted against the carerra marble. I'm hoping a fun (changeable) backsplash will keep things rolling with the times... :) I think you could pull off the modern hardware you selected if there were no arches OR if the cabinets were darker OR if they were lighter. I think the stainless really would drag down the pretty wood tone of the cabinets.

When you are ready to update, you might be able to find a more modern look that compliments your arches and rounded corners with white walls and your current flooring. I too was thinking of blue because the white walls and arches remind me of Greece - with the blue sea. You might be able to love your kitchen with a new counter and backsplash...

I wouldn't do anything until I saved up money to redo the whole kitchen. At that time would do away with the two level "island" and put in a large one level island instead.
For now, the stark white paint is a bit contrasty and it all would be more cohesive with a slightly creamy color on the walls.

You are right about saving the money and that is what my husband and I just decided after reading your comments and the others. We have always disliked the 2 level island too and have already planned on the one level.

Our home was really yellowy/creamy color and the walls were so dingy and dark looking. Since it takes a lot of time and money to paint all the walls in our 3000 sq. foot home (small to some I am sure) I decided to paint them only once so white it is. We lived in a little 1200 sq. foot home in Anchorage and it was so much easier to remodel and decorate! Don't we all wish we could do everything at one time?! I can't wait to get the kitchen done.

I love blue - my favorite color. I never thought about taking into consideration the arches we have in our home. As I get more confused and try to make some decisions about style, colors etc., I definitely feel that I need a designer to get it all right. The pics you included are so beautiful and that is just how I want my home to feel - beautiful! I am sure your remodel is just stunning and I hope you will find the time to share the backsplash you decide on.

Thanks Ramona. We have definitely decided to wait and work extra hard to get the kitchen remodel started earlier if possible and get some professional help - design help at least!

I love blue and also teal! I told someone else that the reason the house is so white is because I was only going to be able to paint once so I chose the white since that is what I envisioned for the final product. At least all the bedrooms are colors!

Hopefully it will all come together - sooner than later. I appreciate your suggestions.

Even if all the major spaces are now pure white, you can add color in accent places like an island.

We can't see how the white works in the other rooms, so we are not critiquing that.

Personally, I love rounded corners. You may come to appreciate them.

Good decision on waiting to do the whole thing at once.
