Cutting of Abies hidalgensis after four days drying in truck bed!

that's very cool. As I'm sure you're well aware, Hidalgo fir has only been recently described and accepted as a legitimate species. In fact in the ACS ConiferBase, although we have a pretty good description, all we have is a picture of a dusty herbarium specimen.

May add your picture to the record? Also can you let me know your real identity so I can properly attribute your photo work?

thanks!

The conifers.org link lists a bunch of trees and understory trees associated with this fir that I’ve rarely, if ever, have heard of...except for Ptelea trifoliata. I wouldn’t have guessed that in a million years, and how interesting it’s native to Hidalgo, Mexico and cold Wisconsin. Fascinating!

As far as I know there has been one(1) successful crossing this Happy New Year!

Very nice!
