I don't think it matters as there is no restriction in front of the fridge as shown in the blueprints.....there will be no constriction as shown but how are you going to open the door beyond 90 degrees or less on the left door? Will it clear the doorway and will that be a problem for people passing thru the doorway>

I was thinking about this problem. It seems that going CD would restrict the door form opening (especially with the handle). It seems like there may be an issue if there is traffic coming form the garage into the house, but I don't think this will be a common occurrence (and there is nothing we can do about it anyway at this point).

In truth counter depth fridges store almost exactly the same amount maybe at most 10% less but the big advantage is the look and the ease of finding stuff before it goes bad. I have had counter depth fridges for almost 20 yrs the first were the most awesome from Sweden but can’t them anymore but I have never regretted going counter depth

There's nothing worse than a beautiful kitchen where the fridge sticks out and dominates the space. Go counter depth, they have more than enough storage and the fridge is already in a traffic path so it will give you the most amount of room.

I have a counter depth refrigerator, it looks much better than my previous standard, however, it is much smaller, too shallow IMO , just be aware that it will hold less. I bought a smaller basic refrigerator for the garage to compensate for the lack of storage ( needed for when I entertain, especially around the holidays).

With a french-door fridge, you don't tend to lose things in the back as much, because the doors hold a good portion of the depth. I don't have a large family, but I would never go counter-depth -- it just feels too restrictive.

Do be aware, though, that your full-depth fridge will actually intrude into that doorway, even when closed. Not by a ton, but it could be enough to bump into when carrying a bunch of stuff.

Can you gain any depth by building back into the wall a bit? We had our contractors recess our fridge into the wall -- there's usually 3 inches available if you plan electric and plumbing for it, and even an inch can make a big difference in a bottleneck situation like this. But that (we got just an inch) plus side panels can prevent the "fridge dominating the room" effect to some degree...

I have had both SD and CD, and currently have a large built in. Counter depth was the best of all. Don't just look at the cubic feet -there is another number - "useable cubic feet" - listed in the specs - compare those numbers. Better design, higher quality insulation (thinner) means more space, not less in the counter depth models.

just make sure that you have room to swing the left door open against that door frame. You may bust something. That is, if the carcass is 28" and that wall is 33", you're going to dent the door for sure. And maybe not be able to pull out the left drawer or deli drawer.

Counter depth, IMO. I don't like a huge refrigerator sticking out. I opted to supplement with a wine/beverage fridge to keep all those things out of the fridge. (One side wine, the other side kids' stuff!) Works great. Fridge looks nice too.

Counter depth all the way! For my temporary house, I was so mad that I needed to put in a CD due to it being on a narrow walkway. However, I honestly could not imagine going back. With 3 kids and Costco trips, I need food storage. But myCD stays more organized ...and things don’t get lost. I do have a garage fridge, but would need that regardless. Seems like all the comments from owners of CD are love them. Honestly, I am surprised how much more I like mine!

We have counter depth refrigerators in our primary residence and vacation home. The look is much more streamlined and storage space is fine for us. I don't like a refrigerator crammed with so much stuff that you can't see what's in back, or is a bulky box jutting out from the cabinets. Unless you have a large family, and stock up for a week or more, go with CD.

Cannot stress too strongly that you also have to consider the panel that will have to installed on the other side of the fridge to give the appearance of being built in.

Reviving this thread as we are in the exact same situation, except our wall is 32 inches and the door is a secondary door to the dining room. Wondering what you decided? We are also looking a french door fridges with the same dimensions. I'm perfectly fine going with the counter depth storage wise, just having a hard time stomaching the higher cost for less fridge.

counter depth for sure. we also have a chest freezer and a backup fridge/freezer in the garage.

we just remodeled to get our fridge out of the path to the garage, went with a counter depth Samsung 4 door...it's a great fridge, it has a flex portion to work as freezer or fridge, and I use it as fridge because the freezer portion is so big it holds more than our old freezer-on-top fridge

I went with a KA counter depth because I did not want the fridge jutting out into the kitchen. Happy I did but we are only 2 people. The size is fine for 2 - I would think a family would want bigger.

I absolutely love my LG French Door counter depth fridge. We moved into a split entry home with a small kitchen in May and as soon as you walked into the kitchen you just saw a wall of giant fridge. Our old fridge was a side by side so stuff was always going bad in the back and it was just obtrusive. When we renovated our kitchen we we adamant that we would put in a counter depth fridge and built cabinets around it to give it a built in look. It is gorgeous, my food is easily accessible, and my kitchen feels so much bigger even with adding a 48" peninsula! Sorry my before pic isn't great! Silly me got carried away with renovation and forgot to take some! This picture is from the listing when we bought the house and it isn't great (probably trying hide how ugly the fridge is)!
